The Philadelphia Flyers 2024 Off Season Thread

Most of the chatter around the draft is Celebrini is perennial all-star caliber, then the next 11-12 picks are 'top of the lineup' type guys. Doesn't seem to be a real consensus on how those 11-12 will go after Celebrini goes first.

So you think the Head Coach could want to fire one of his assistants and the GM/President would overrule him and say "no you have to keep that assistant"? Even when he's objectively been terrible at his job? And even when the coach has clearly been the reason for getting rid of multi-million...

He wouldn't have a job if Torts wanted him gone either. You said "only Torts holds people accountable", but he's not holding Thompson accountable.

The head coach is responsible for hiring/firing his assistants. There's a reason Brad Shaw is an assistant under Torts for the 3rd different team right now. Shaw is good though, fine with him. Thompson needs to go.

Scary thing is we thought that last year when they were worst in the league at 15.56%. They were 12.2% this year. Even finishing league average probably would've resulted in 20 more GF throughout the year. Also didn't realize they were last in 21-22 also at 12.5%. This team is real bad on the...

Apparently worst in the league 2 seasons in a row is not enough. According to the end of year press conferences Thompson will have that role again next year. Woo, accountability…

Probably another sign they’re not too worried about the next couple years’ cap. Throw a lot of money at Fedotov to get him over, if he pans out awesome, if he doesn’t, probably didn’t need that cap space anyway.

Ya, maybe. Frost for sure if we're glued to Torts. If he's going to bench Frost needing a goal in a must-win final game of the season to make the playoffs, with this group of players, there's not really a point in keeping him. I actually think he's just as likely to be gone as Atkinson is. Torts...

I think I've decided I want them to trade TK. It makes more sense than trading Farabee, even though I like TK more. Farabee is 3 years younger and probably 3M cheaper. And I think they'd get more in return for TK. Plus Farabee has more room to grow in terms of development. Maybe gets to TK-level...

It's watching games with teams like Carolina that make me think the Flyers are still a long way away. Just looking at it subjectively here, the forwards on the Flyers and Canes ranked for me is.. Aho (26) Guentzel (29) Svechnikov (23) Konecny (26) Jarvis (21) Tippett (24) Necas (25) Teravainen...

2023-24 Flyers: What's new is old again.

Also, looking at the Flyers point leaders is depressing. TK with 68pts in 76 games. Good season from him, but he was 59th in the league in points.

Yep. And they can just drop them on LTIR if they get themselves in to too tight of a cap situation. So no real reason to buy Ellis out at least. Johansen I think will be healthy enough to play next year so his 4M will be something to manage. I think I'd rather just eat the 4M for 1 year...

Really hoping one of Parekh, Buium, Dickinson or Yakemchuk gets to the Flyers. Pronman has them all top 9 so probably not very likely. But a lot of mocks have Lindstrom and Eiserman higher up the board. I still want to see them move up to get one of those 'all-star' caliber guys. Like Iginla...

Ya, looks like the 12/14 game in Philly gets tossed as the "odd game". So the Flyers winning in regulation tonight would mean each team got 2 (out of 4) points in their head to head.

2023-24 Flyers: What's new is old again.

Ya, pretty long odds I would imagine. Need the Wings and Pens to lose in regulation and beat the Caps in regulation. Other side of the coin, Pronman has the "top of the lineup" prospects tier ending at #13. So let's just hope we don't see a Flyers win, Wings lose, Pens win, Wild lose type of...

Every team the Flyers are interested in won last night. Caps, Pens, Wings. But also the Wild who climbed over them to the 13th lottery slot.

Ya. Losing out is what's best now. A win or two coudl easily jump PIT/DET/MIN in the standings to finish 15th in odds. Lose out and there's a chance to get passed by SEA/NJ/BUF to finish 9th in odds. Might be able to get a pretty good d prospect in that 9-10 range.

I mean, Torts does it as a wake-up call to Coots and the team, right? And that didn't work. The team sucked afterwards. So the tactic failed. The approach can be fine, sure hold everyone accountable. But the wakeup call didn't work. So Torts bears some responsibility there. Should've found a...

The bold is the whole key. Basically every bit of news about that situation said that Torts didn't say anything to him. Torts didn't even refute that? So i don't really get why you don't believe it. You think Coots and everyone else that's talked about it, are lying, and Torts just doesn't want...

It's asset management though. You're going to have to pay to move a 40pt center with 6 years left on a 7.75M deal with a NMC. Who has back problems. I don't think anyone would be concerned with 'character flaws'. He's been a pros pro since he was 18. Whatever this blip with Torts is, other teams...

I wonder what Briere and Jones are taking from this. Does this collapse impact their offseason plans at all? Aside from considering a coaching change maybe, but to tbh I'd be pretty surprised if they go that route. They'll probably have some koombaya sessions to try to get everyone back in the...

https://www.nhl.com/flyers/news/flyers-sign-left-wing-oscar-eklind-to-a-one-year-entry-level-contract Doesn't sound like people think he'll amount to much more than a 4th liner at the NHL level. But he's big and can apparently skate.
