I don't buy into these Japanese pitchers... Too be honest, which pitchers have actually lived up to their expecations?

I've noticed the biggest issue with them is injuries.

Tanaka, Dice-K, Darvish and Iwakuma have all had seasons in which they lived up to expectations, but all battled injuries.

It's early, but you can probably also add Ohtani to that list. Battled injuries last year in Japan and has had some injuries here already.

kikuchi is a...... LHp...the mariners are full up right now on those

the white sox ...who have a nicely developing rotation...they could use a lefty...that rotation could be awesome in a few years

the mariners could use an ohtani type ...unfortunatly.... they missed out

Doing fine... Sure... But I don't see him living up to the hype or expectations... Look what the Yankees paid to get him...

red sox and yankees often overpay...not just to add to there team ...but to keep those guys off another team

i dont really like that al davis mentallity...but it does happen in sports..(so much the worse..for marcus allen...and fans)

never worrie about the deep pockets of the..dodgers, red sox,and yankees.....lol

Shigetoshi Hasegawa. Was legit in 2003.

His ERA was like 0.60 until mid August then he kinda wore down a little. Similar to every Mariner team with expectations I guess

Japanese pitchers are too fragile.

Yeah, they are a bunch of brittle bitches. Three more to your list: Kei Igawa, Hideo Nomo, Kaz Ishii.
Ironically, the guy who came in with the least amount of hype, Hiroki Kuroda, was the only one who avoided injury.

Generally most do live up to the "hype" at the beginning of their careers. Problem is most Japanese pitchers A. Don't pitch anywhere near the innings American and Latin players do so they seem to get hurt easier and B. Generally do well because they have a really good gimmick pitch. Most are kind of like knuckleballers, they can have success in short spurts. Ohtani was a special case because he threw upper 90-100 consistently.

Yep. Which is one of the reasons I don’t get excited about Japanese pitchers
