there is something to the college correlation though, more than coincidence. Especially with Wisconsin (and, used to be with Nebraska). When your school continually pumps out massive, athletic olineman, like Wisconsin and Nebraska do/used to do..those RB' look damned good, and when those holes aren't there at the next level, they don't always make the adjustment. My Huskers had a few exceptions..Roger Craig, Ahman Green, but generally, those studs that looked like world beaters behind an NFL line in college, don't translate well.
Similar to Texas tech QB's and WR's now (used to be BYU)..There is more than simple coincidence to the theory

I can buy that, especially with the Big 12 QBs that play in an up tempo spread offense

I'm 5th, 8th and 10th

8 and 10 I def take him

5th is where I'm struggling cause I don't want AB, so it could be Barkley or Kamara
If you're drafting with other Giants fans, how do you know he'll be there at 5?
The "homer" factor could see him going sooner than expected. Gotta factor that in.

Hope youre right, especially at 5....If Gurley/Bell/Johnson or Zeke sneak to me at 5, Ill be a happy man

But I think I have no shot at Barkley at 8 and 10 in my other leagues

I think the simple fact that NY won't be very competitive and will give up on the run early in games doesn't help his chances.

Not that I agree with the Giants assessment, but pass catching backs in PPR could shine in come from behind passing situations.....When defenses loosen up, that underneath pass is what they give up...Cant tell you how many games I won or lost in fantasy cause a RB has 7 catches in a meaningless blowout 4th quarter

You could be right about PPR but I don't play that format.

The thing about that though it that more and more teams are not putting their starting running backs in even if they are pass catching backs in the 4th quarter when they have no chance to win, so instead of Barkley getting all those catches, it will probably be Wayne Gallman.

COULD is much different than what's being thrown out there in this instance.
This is fantasy. If you wait to see it then you already missed it.

You must love chasing last week's points. That shit always cracks me up.

but there isn't a way to actually realize that perceived value in year 1, since he'll cost you a 1st round pick no matter what, so if you want Barkley, your random draft spot has everything to do with it, whether or not you are drafting him this year or next year.

or are we talking about keeper/dynasty leagues?
I thought this thread was about redraft
I'm talking redraft. You can get a truly elite back outside of the truly elite back range. That's value.

Eh, maybe, don't necessarily buy that

Down 14 in the 4th, most starting backs are still out there

I buy it.
How else do guys like Toby gerhart, Michael Turner and the like get their garbage time yards that get them noticed for the next season?

Both those guys were regulars for stretches, not just garbage time players

I can't imagine you play fantasy and haven't won or lost on garbage time receptions, when Davonte Freeman has 6 catches on the final drive of a 21 point loss

I think both Bandit and Dirt are dead on balls right. The determining factor in each case by case instance is whether you own the guy or not.

If you own the guy you need that garbage for, they put in the "change of pace" back, if your opponent owns him, you're damn right that lil SOB stays in

Turner got noticed spelling Tominson in SD for some 4 years before going to Atlanta.
Gerhart got noticed spelling Adrian Peterson before getting his disastrous shot as a starter.

Lol
Yup

But I still think we are talking small samples here

I think most teams are in shouting distance of a competitive game at the start of most 4th quarters

I won't be drafting based on a player being on a team that could be involved in blowouts, that seems like a recipe that will backfire

I don't see Odell being down graded because the Giants might have some blow outside in theory. It's more of effort to nitpick Barkley potential.

Def agree, but I think Barkley being a solid pass catcher, just may have his most productive fantasy days in lopsided games. Wouldn't shock me

Of course we're nitpicking.
What else is there to do in the preseason?

Even in Elliott's monster rookie season, his share of carries among all the Dallas RB was 72%. Alf, McFadden and others got the other 28%.

Of course, it's all good natured, he opens vs the Jaguars, so talk about being tested right away
