They don't even have room for any guys that want to add in September. There will be, I'd guess, a couple of guys who get dfa'd in a couple of weeks (and maybe Samardzija transferred to the 60 day if they don't like his rehab).

Black has been terrible lately, but Law has been terrible all year in Sacto. Hope he does well, and finds whatever he lost up here.
Apparently he has been working with Vogey in Sacto and they found something mechanical.

And if the Giants call him back up on Sept. 1st, he technically wouldn't waste an option year, right? Don't you have to spend like 20 days in the minors for an option to count? I mean he's spent all year in the minors, but not on the 40 man roster. Does that become retroactive once he's added to the 40 man?

I believe it is 10 days.

20

Players on a 40-man roster are given three Minor League "options." An option allows that player to be sent to the Minor Leagues ("optioned") without first being subjected to waivers. When a player is optioned to the Minors for a span of more than 20 days, he loses an option.

To me, it seems like the rules would allow for Kelly to preserve his option this year

Kelly had his contract first purchased in late August 2012 and was on the 60 day dl for most of 2013 and 2014. His 1st option was used in 2015. His 2nd option was used in 2016 and was outrighted that following offseason. So, yes, he does have one more option year.

As for option rules, the following are in effect for Kelly:

  • If a player’s optional assignment(s) to the minors total less than 20 days in one season, an option is not used.
  • An option year is not used if a player is injured and spends 30 days or less on an active roster.

Posey placed on 10 day dl, Garcia recalled.

Interested to see what he can do.

Reports have it that his defense (which was well behind his hitting out of the draft) has surpassed his bat in terms of development, injuries have just slowed him down recently on the offensive side.

Has a good skillset to be a backup for a long time. If he can carve out a Nick Hundley career, that'd be awesome.
