Just heard CB Rasul Douglas went down at practice. Anyone have details? Ironic as we were talking about a rumored Darby trade ... lol. Douglas was having a ruff go of it so far this year; Mike Wallace was taking him to school today prior to getting hurt.

He and Laroy Johnson collided, but Rasul got up in a few seconds. No problem. Switch him to safety!

Rumor Mill ... Ronald Darby to the Dolphins in exchange for a draft pick. Eagles want to move Sid Jones to the outside instead of the slot where they have 2 guys in Bausby (who's looked great in the slot and will make the team) as well as rookie Maddox. The Phins are actively looking to add a Corner as their Corners have looked bad in Camp. Darby is on the last year of his deal and not likely to resign as the Birds are deep at Corner.

*** My take: Opposed to it unless Miami offers a trade we can't refuse. I love our "depth" at Corner.

rumor mill... from???

imho, huge mistake. Darby is arguably our best CB out there. Sid Jones is still UNPROVEN. to have a smooth transition of talent, it is best to let a player prove himself BEFORE cutting your starter. Especially a quality starter. This would be a "HUGE' mistake, considering the loss of Robinson as well. You cannot just "gamble" that way.

In addition, Darby had 2 near INT's in the last preseason game, while Sid Jones gave up a TD and was juked out his socks. This is not Sid Jones hate in ANY manner. It's the sober realization that he is still a rookie, and you don't gamble when you don't have to. Darby is proven, and will be playing for a new contract - whether with this team or another. We don't need the draft pick that bad, in a year we are SB challenging. If we did this, it would be a HUGE mistake, imho.

The Eagles don't need draft picks but they could use a wide receiver.

Darby has looked great so far ... then again he's fully healthy this season.

Saw this morning on BGN that there was a source reporting BG was coming off PUP this week. I got excited.

Then that source was mentioned as Howard Eskin. I got substantially less excited.

So this is very good news to see it official.

Foles is good to go ... scheduled to play most of the first half on Thursday. I think he still ends up starting Week 1 vs Atlanta.

I still think that’s the safe bet. The shoulder is/was apparently hurting, but not injured.

I think a solid 1-1.5 quarters of all first team being out there will go a long way for us. Preseason is always a cluster fuck of things going on with player rotations etc. All that said I have felt some concern about being fully ready to role from the whistle week 1 with how preseason has gone.

A solid dress rehearsal tomorrow can be a huge benefit. Get through most of a first half and pull the starters back to practice and I think we will be good week one.

I too still have seen nothing to say Wentz is out there by week one. And I’m ok with this.

Offense didn't look ready to play tonight.

Yeah. Fuck.

That did not look good at all. Vaitai is way off. And more so Foles just did not look good. Maybe a light goes on with regular season, but even when the offense was moving the ball some it just felt off.

Preseason. It’s just preseason I hope.

Preseason. It’s just preseason I hope.

leaning on excuses is a sure sign things are not going well.

But on the hand.... we do have a lot of players that were not in the game, that will be. Not even counting on getting Wentz back soon, which is as huge as it gets, we also get Peters, agholor, Sproles back and Ajay and Clements didn't play either. I don't think Graham played either. So we have a lot more players heading back - plus what Doug is BEST at -- gameplanning and adjusting to the game - will be much different in regular season than what we see in pre-season.

But I have to point this out---- it is something that really did impress me about Doug! After the half, talking to one of the reporters, he slammed Foles and admitted he isn't playing well, and that he didn't know what his problem was. He isn't coddling the SB MVP and making any excuses because it's a preseason game. It's not about winning the game, it's about performing how you should perform no matter what the plays are. Doug has been excellent about not letting a win or a loss cloud his judgment on performance or team need. As much as I began to dislike Reid, the longer he was here, I think we have something really really special in Doug. Possibly more than I even realized at first. Doug/Wentz could be something very special for this team for the next decade.

With Mike Wallace not looking like anything special, I hope we get a dynamic WR in the 2019 draft. that said, LT, DT, and LB e higher priority. Jeffrey to get healthy, and stay there. Alshon and Nelson are our only real studs. And then, they have to find a way to re-sign Nelson soon to an extension. With OBJ breaking the bank, it will be tough!

Man, we're going into the season with a ton of question marks ... still no clarity on when Wentz will be back. Still hasn't been cleared for contact ... is the first hit he takes this year coming back from injury going to be in an actual regular season game? I think we will see Foles in there for more games than anyone expected this year. Alshon still not cleared? Same as Wentz ... no contact till the regular season? Ajayi now on the shelf with not much info ... sounding more like a regroup year than a "defending the title" year. Our Defense will have to keep us afloat, at least early on.

I'm not reading too much into the offensive struggles. I think that the coaching staff tried giving Vaitai more 1-on-1 looks to see how he handled it in the preseason. They'll likely get back to giving him more help during the season. Free look at the guy, might as well see if you can count on him to be a lock-down LT (doesn't look to be the case). So you probably have to look at moving Lane there for good when Peters hangs them up.

I’m certainly not proclaiming to be an expert in such things....but I just can’t see OBJs deal making Aggy that much more expensive to sign. They just don’t feel near comparable. I do still think it’s been Aggys turnaround that, if it continues well this year, will make him a tough cap number to take on from an economic sense.

And while on OBJs deal....good for him. But I just still struggle why any skill position that doesn’t start with Q would get so much of the team cap in today’s game.

I just feel much better with a guy like Jeffrey on a 52M total contract with 14.25 guaranteed than a guy getting 95M with 65M guaranteed. Yes, OBJ is better. I just think it hamstrings overall roster flexibility.

I think this happens these days. I watched most of the first half last Thursday. I even watched the roll up on Fox....who is so excited to have Thursday night and was putting a full dress rehearsal in. You had Buck and Aikman calling it. You had two sideline reporters. It had the total feel of a regular season game. And it was the “dress rehearsal” week 3 game. Felt like a trap to me to buy in that we were playing an actual game. That was not an actual game.

And it makes sense to me. I have seen more and more over time that illusion that week 3 is the big roll out for first team. That it gives some glimpse of the season to come because the first team plays so much. But we rarely see the overall game plan that will roll out week one from anyone.

That was ugly Thursday night. I make no illusion that this bad confidence game from Nick can be lingering to the team. But short of that I didn’t see much in the game plan I expect in season. The “Vaitai on an island” example is a good example of that preseason trying things out thing.

That said....I do think it’s going to be on the D early on to lean on their depth and skill to hold teams back. I think there will be some rust on offense. Guys will be working back in from injury. It’s going to be touchy the first 4-6 weeks or so.

But have I seen anything in preseason that makes me think the team will struggle and be rusty into the back half of the season? No, I haven’t seen that yet.

I’m still good with Wentz not taking a hit until regular season. Much the same with Jeffrey. Heal up. Ajayi to a lesser degree, as RB benefits from getting into a groove. Still, I think we knew this with Ajayi when we got him. He would be a severe reps limited guy in non games as he could only have so many runs left in those knees.

As far as LT, I don't see Lane Johnson moving over from RT. He is the best RT in the league. I bet that whether this year or next year, when he steps down, Mailata will be his replacement. Matt Pryor will be the swing T, and Big V is an endangered species. Bye, Bye, Big V. Our O-line are monsters (except for Kelce), and combined with our D-line, we can overwhelm our opponents.

It's not how you start, but how you finish. It's a long season and it's more important to be playing well as you go into the playoffs then playing well at the beginning of the year. We may indeed struggle early on.
Wentz is franchise player. He needs to be here for the next 15 years. There is no need or reason to put him out there unless he's 110%. A few losses at the beginning of the season are meaningless in the grand scheme of things. I'd rather he not play for the first 4-5 games.
Lots of injuries to important people, lots of rust to be knocked off.
Defense is looking good. I'm more concerned with seeing progress at this point and the first couple of games than i am with victories.
