Because you need camp bodies and you need to play 2nd and, 3rd units. Did you think Campos looked any better? Want to leave T Smith and Collins out there after seeing what happened to Frederick and Martin? Him being on the roster now and being on the 53 are totally different topics. We absolutely need him right now, but I don't think he has much of a chance at all to be on the 53 so I wouldn't be too worried.

I get what you are saying. But if they had a different camp body that replaced chaz, I would be totally fine with it.

Sir Robin Of Camelot

You seem angry. Miserable, even.

It's funny right before that play I said "we gotta go to Rico here and see if he can make a play' and he did. He just completely overpowered that guy. But, the drop offsets it. You can't be 50% in this league. I was hoping they would have throw him the ball 4 or 5 times to give him a chance to show his ability. It was funny when Spears said he needs guys around him. Hopefully he gets some PT in week 3. Obviously he will play a lot in week 4.

The drop offsets things... and the play where it “appears” he ran the wrong route doesn’t help his case either. As you correctly note - can’t be 50%. and the little things are where Rico seems to be severely deficient.

He definitely needs a big sample size in Week 4. And hopefully the QB isn’t running for his life because #79 is lined up at RT.

Yea it is, Captain Obvious
So far my all too soon and based on not enough data take on this team from what I have seen is the starters and the group of guys right behind them that are expected to contribute and play a lot have for the most part been very good. The bubble guys and guys likely on the wrong side of the bubble have been pretty poor. Our 3rd and 4th string defense has looked horrible against the other teams similar guys. Good news is most of them won't be on the team. Bad news is some will due to injury/PS.

We may need another OL with M Martin out. I think Edwards has been OK.

Wondering if the bottom of the 53 CBs will be not quite as good as I was hoping. Brown obviously not playing well. Lewis hasn't been great and a lot of the guys fighting for the #5 spot have been poor. I think we need to swap out Brown and Lewis and see what changes. Lewis just looks so much the better prospect

Neither backup QB has been too good, but they only play if injury anyway. Not sure we can keep 3 if we can't be sure at least one can be a lot better than they have been. Rush was fine last year so he has it in him and White still looks the better long term prospect so hopefully they both step up and we are able to keep both.

I was hoping for Price or Ash to win a roster spot and give us a big DL to clog the middle. Price completely blew up a play and overpowered his guy. But Woods has just told them both to hold his beer so far...

All of this of course is based on a few preseason snaps and can change in a heart beat.

The guys that matter look ready for the season and ready to play well.

Most important issue is hearing about those injuries. A lot of important players right now that we need to keep an eye on. I suspect we won't play the top first team guys as much as normal week 3 based on the current injury report.
I am so happy with Dak as our QB. He is really growing. The timing with the recievers will come.

ok Im going to dogpile on the chaz green Train
I feel for the guy but if it smells like limburger cheese on a 105 degree day in Dallas its time to clean up with Bleach ajax and maybe some muratic acid just to make sure and find anybody on the couch that can block. This guy is terrible and I honestly question the judgement that has kept him on the team .
see ya Chaz good luck I don't hate ya just don't want you on my cowboys

Hard to do what he is doing right now. Only a few months with Gallup, Hurns, Austin, Thompson. Bease has been hurt. No TE that he feels entirely comfortable with. He is handling it pretty well.

Rico collision: did he run the wrong way or was it a pick play that the two just got mixed up on a little?

Tackle: Focus on Fleming. If he is good this team has 2 solid starters and a solid swing tackle. Then focus on the young guys you don't really know and hope one impresses enough to make the PS and be a little plan for the future. If that all happens OT won't be an issue in the regular season.:hope:

On Green: I don't think he was ever going to make the team. I think the teams plan (guessing of course) was our 2 starters and Fleming as the swing tackle with Martin as the backup OG and emergency backup OT. With Martin hurt and maybe cut via injury settlement the emergency OT is the issue. I don't see any way that is going to be Green. Look for a possible cut down day veteran signing. If we go that route it won't likely be a PS eligible guy, so we may be looking at one less TE or WR. Or maybe a guy like Edwards earns the backup OG spot and can be an emergency OT.

Offense is doing well and chains are moving and points are being put on the board. But, I'm still not seeing guys get as open as I would like. Only 5 drives so no big deal of course. Could it be the same old same old predictable Offense? The players inability to get open? The lack of Beasley, Austin(speed) and Thompson (speed)? The lack of Zeke in the game? The vanilla preseason offense? Who knows. Not saying I'm worried at all, but just a subtle thing I have noticed at this point and have been watching for.

I agree. A lot of Dak scrambling has allowed them time to separate a bit. Not a great formula, but a 15 plus play drive without Fred, Zeke, Bease, Austin and even Martin a couple of plays is impressive. I found myself watching the DVR wanting them to hurry up so I could actually see the defense

Agree but it sure is fun to watch these LBs swarm. I love the Joe Thomas pick up.

3 WEEKS away. Looking like it’s going to be a really good game. I thought Thomas Davis retired. He is out there.

i am more interested in the defense also. On Offense as long as we have health and the passing game improves over last year there is little to worry about or be surprised by.

I'd love to see a defense that gives us great field position all year and that gets some turnovers and sacks to end drives and get the Offense back out there.

Maybe, but it sure beats reading articles about practice and what someone else sees or thinks. I've seen a lot this preseason so far that seems important and absolutely an indicator. First and foremost is how much quicker Jaylon Smith looks. The speed isn't that much different but the burst and change of direction look completely different. Also important is when guys who struggled continue to struggle at the same things (Brown, Green, etc). Guys winning or losing jobs says there is some importance. I don't get too high or low based on preseason, but there is a lot to be learned there

Dak is just a servicable QB in my opinion... Nothing special about him.

I agree PDay, you are one of the more knowledgeable contributors on the Cowboys thread. Too bad there aren't more like you here.
