Pink Floyd + LSD = life-changing
Dude I bet. Ketamine is similar in its effects to LSD or psilocybin (mushrooms), though its effects are much shorter in length (about an hour when injected). I wouldn't say my life has been changed, but it was an amazing experience yesterday.

Unfortunately, acid really isn't common in my area. I'd have to go up to NYC to really find a place where it's common. Hopefully I'll get lucky with a guy soon, otherwise I'll have to wait until it (or more likely psilocybin) is legalized in the early 2020s.

Ketamine is the closest I can get to it at the moment. It's expensive as hell, but it's worth it. I've got three more appointments with them in the immediate future- next Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. I'm going to increase the dosage too. Just need to find a good album to listen to.

I can't like that rating.
I thought you were PeoplesChicken with that avi.

I get that it might be a bit low. Certainly, an aggregate of rock fans' ratings of PG would be much higher than 3.5/5 stars. But for me, there isn't a single song that's a top 250 song of all time, and like I said, the last 5 songs really drag the album out.

But I get that most will not agree with 3.5/5 stars for PG.

I respect your right to have an opinion, I just think it sucks.

The Wall: 4.5/5 stars. Rank on RS Top 500 Albums List: 87

268x0w.jpg

I have heard this album so many times (probably 15-20 times) in its entirety, but felt unable to review it for some reason. I listened to it yesterday at the ketamine infusion place, and decided it's time that I reviewed it and called it what it is: a masterpiece.

One of the best-selling albums of all time, and one of the most beloved concept albums, this album works in every way. ~Every song on its own is awesome, and every song in the context of the story is awesome. I have two songs that I consider masterpieces on it, "Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2" and "Hey You," but so many others are unbelievably amazing as well: "Mother," "Vera," "One of My Turns," "Comfortably Numb," "Young Lust," "Goodbye Cruel World," "Nobody Home," and "Goodbye Blue Sky" are all beautiful.

I consider this album psychedelic, because it does transport you to another world, but I was surprised when I looked it up that it's not really considered a psychedelic album. On Wikipedia, for example, its genres are "Art rock," "Progressive rock," and "Progressive pop." I can see the last two labels, though I think the term "progressive" is a little pretentious and kind of undercuts the beauty of the album, but that's just my own opinion of the term in its common usage, not necessarily the genre. But the first genre, "Art rock" interested me. Obviously, the term refers to a genre, but just taking the term at face value, I don't think you could better describe this album. It's art in the form of rock music. Of course, all music is art in some form, but this album is the closest rock music has ever gotten to being truly beautiful and important art. I mean, I'm not into paintings, but this album is on the same level as the Mona Lisa. And I don't mean that pretentiously. If you've listened to this album, you already know that though.

One of the best albums of all time.

"I've got nicotine stains on my fingers
I've got a silver spoon on a chain
Got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains
I've got wild staring eyes
And I've got a strong urge to fly
But I got nowhere to fly to (fly to, fly to, fly to, fly to, fly to, fly to)

Ooh, babe when I pick up the phone
There's still nobody home"
Also, forgot to mention, "The Trial" scared the fuck out of me yesterday. It was right around when I was coming back to earth, which was good, because if I was just a little higher I may have gone schizophrenic.

When the girls started singing:

"Crazy, toys in the attic, he is crazy"

and then the judge comes in with

"The evidence before the court is
Incontrovertible, there's no need for
The jury to retire
In all my years of judging
I have never heard before
Of someone more deserving
Of the full penalty of law
The way you made them suffer
Your exquisite wife and mother
Fills me with the urge to defecate

Since, my friend, you have revealed your
Deepest fear
I sentence you to be exposed before
Your peers
Tear down the wall"

I was like :eek::eek::eek:

Good reviews. Both groups are among my favorites, but neither record is among my top 3 offerings from either. Though I like PG, which simply had a bit too much filler, a lot more more than The Wall, which only had a few good songs and a lot of others I find unlistenable.

The Wall is top 3 Pink Floyd for me but I'm looking back at the band from a modern perspective where it just flat-out has some of their best songs and some of the best songs of all time.

From an album standpoint, I think Dark Side of the Moon is better and I'm a bit partial to Wish You Were Here but I think they're all in 5/5 territory.

Physical Graffiti and Dark Side Of The Moon stand as my two greatest rock records of all time (although Animals is my personal favourite from PF). The Wall, ironically, starts showing cracks as far as Floyd being a halcyon band, but when it's on, it's fucking on.

I know I'm going to be in a distinct minority here, but I thought The Final Cut was really a fantastic album. Memory tells me that RS gave it an outstanding review and viewed it as the ultimate achievement in the field of art rock.
Got very little radio play as it didn't have much in the way of radio friendly songs (and the one that did get played had to be edited due to the "fuck all that" chorus) and seemed to be forgotten not long after it was released. After all these years, The Gunner's Dream and Paranoid Eyes still play themselves in my brain sometimes.

As for The Wall, Comfortably Numb stands out for me as one of the greatest rock songs of all time featuring one of the great guitar solos of all time...and, strangely enough, it doesn't fit into the narrative of the album especially well. I mean, it works, but it always struck me as the red headed stepchild of that album, albeit one who got a PhD from Harvard and ended up being the superstar of the family.

Regarding the discussion about making a double album with one album's worth of material, the Clash made a TRIPLE with a bit less real stuff than that with SANDANISTA! Somebody Got Murdered and Police On My Back were actually pretty good tunes that maybe could have been great with a little more work, but so much of that album is just filler...although I will admit to enjoying the inspired lunacy of Lose This Skin, sung by Joe Strummer's old flatmate and genuine lunatic Tymon Dogg. You can also hear Mick Jones' girlfriend at the time, Ellen Foley, on Hitsville UK...she was on Night Court for a short time and is the female lead on Meatloaf's Paradise By The Dashboard Light.

I always thought Comfortably Numb belonged on Dark Side of the Moon. Whenever I see a cover band and when I saw Roger Waters is just seems out of place to have them close with Comfortably Numb and not Eclipse.

OOC, what are the good songs and which do you find “unlistenable” on The Wall? I don’t think I find a single song unlistenable on that album.

Also, is Side 4 (the last 5 songs) the filler on PG for you like it was for me?

Does it have to be from the RS top 500?
If not, Against The Grain by Bad Religion.
Nah, any album will do. I’ll take it into consideration.

You could hit up some 90s.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dreams
Radiohead - The Bends

and if you're ambitious

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
Moby - Play

I like everything from PF, but I'm partial to Animals.

That would require me to listen to it all again. So ok, unlistenable was too strong. But Hey You and Comfortably Numb are the only songs on it that I like. I agree with your assessment of PG. But throwaway LZ is still not bad.. unlike throwaway PF.
