In game side note. Oakland looks

On the road and listened to most of the game and all to the end. The high point DT probably was Charlie P singing God bless America. Tribe sounded like they took batting practice on odor goys. Guess Profar looked good at 1B and Choo got snuffed out swinging on ball 4 per announcers who were not too much into it

Remember when a future player ( Mazara) is traded, he will also have to be replaced. I don't see to many future players now so Maz, Guz and Kela can stay put for a while.
They haven't replaced Teixeira yet, but they went to the WS on the strength of that trade plus some other moves.

I think Kela as a closer is worth more than his return would be. Any other reliever...boom.
I think the idea is that Kela would be free before our next window opens up. So if we can get someone who would be available to help when our window opens back up then we should make the trade.

There's a virus in the Texas Rangers organization, and it's been there since the 2011 World Series

It doesn't feel like any blueprint the Rangers have aimed at in the last few years has worked out. Is there anything to hang your hat on to feel like this can be turned around sooner than later?

Fraley: "No."

Grant: "No."

Fraley: "It's a later. I mean, this goes back - I'm going to stretch here - this goes back to Game 6 of the 2011 World Series. It's like that put a virus in the organization. Then the next year, remember, they blew that big lead to Oakland and they lost the wild-card game to Baltimore.

"They started doubling down, doubling down. They were like the guy at last call. They were desperate. Dug the hole deeper - [Prince] Fielder, [Shin-Soo] Choo and bad contracts and bad trades, bad drafts. They've gotten off pretty easy on Dillon Tate as the No. 4 pick in the draft, whiffing on that. They got off pretty easy on whiffing on the [Jonathan] Lucroy and [Jeremy] Jeffress trades. They've got a string of bad developments right now, and right now they're in bad shape, I think.

"I just got back from the All-Star Game and you talk to some people in baseball - and these are outsiders that have no vested interest - they go, 'That club's in trouble.' I talked to a guy who said he just spent two weeks in their system. He goes, 'They've got nothing below High-A in their system.'

"They're in a tough spot right now, and the system's got to be their biggest concern. ... All the sins of the past are coming home to roost - I guess I'm mixing metaphors there. It all started, to me, Game 6, that put a virus. It's like the Red Sox. Remember after '86, it was like a virus and that organization couldn't shake it for a long time."

On the trade prospects for the organization...

Grant: "I think they'd like to trade as many guys as possible among the veterans. I think what they're finding out is there's not a great market for their guys. Cole Hamels has really hurt his value this year, looks like a guy in decline, and there's a long list of pitchers ahead of him. There's not really been a market for Adrian Beltre ... and I think he's happy to stay here.

"Jake Diekman has pitched well for most of the season, but his splits against left-handers aren't real good, which is what you would want from a left-handed reliever. The guys that they signed/traded for this winter - [Matt] Moore and [Doug] Fister - you know, they're hurt and ineffective. So, the guys that they'd like to be able to deal - there's not a whole lot there.

"The one exception on this I think is Keone Kela. There's a guy that's controllable for multiple years, who's established himself as a big-league closer, and I think there's going to be a legitimate market for him. I think he pitches well against Cleveland this weekend, he might leave town with Cleveland."

Fraley: "Yeah, Cleveland is about to waste a really good starting rotation and lineup with a brutal bullpen. So, Cleveland is in the market for bullpen help. But having said that, [the Rangers] have to be creative. Nobody wants their veterans. They're kidding themselves if they think there's any market. They got to look to trade guys like [Nomar] Mazara. That might be the only guy that gets you a package right now."

Grant: "But I think Mazara is an offseason trade. With a guy like Mazara that you've got that much control left on, that's the kind of guy who is an offseason trade. Because the American League playoffs are basically set, and the only teams you might be able to trade a Mazara to right now in the AL are in your division. Do you want that guy to come back and bite you for the next four years?"

A virus? Please....... No tale talent below High A. Think he meant above high A which is not near as good. Think this is more about when a window opens up and do you move some of our young talent. You make good trades in good times and bad IMO and no one is untouchable. I do think you try to keep leadership and those who seem to do well on the big stage if possible.

This is a very harsh assessment of our system though likely from Fraley point of view. Almost like Voo Doo

Right. As always they are geniuses looking back at what transpired. We are devoid of talent in the minors at the higher levels in the pitching department. But the window was open and anyone who was paying attention knew it would close in a few years and it open for the Astros. So JD bet the bank on trying to get at least 1 WS. His mistake was Wash managing the team in the WS.

And you don't have anything like Teixeria to bargain with either.

I don't mind trading Mazara if we get the right return but I do think minus relievers the offseason may be more likely to move somewhat controllable talent.

As guys running a business I still think there is a chance for a free agent splash in 2020 I hopes to pit together a team that is in playoff hunt. But due to MILB SP being our bogey things will have to break right.

So keeping Mazara because a run thought of as a sure thing is not something we need to be rigid on

Also, no too long ago the Angels MILB system was widely known as trash. Things can often change more quickly than we think

I've often said, 'anyone is trade-able', it all depends on the return. But I sure would hate to see Maz go and b/c a Ranger killer for the next decade plus. That would hurt.
