Personally, I still believe the Lakers are going to do some pretty cool things in tomorrow's draft as they have already traded next year's number two for this year's 39th overall pick from Philly. AND I am still leaning toward the notion that the kiddie corp will remain intact and the only Max guy we will see this year is PG.

It's sort of odd to see a team trade for a 2nd round pick before the draft. That kind of deal happens during the draft as teams see guys fall or still on the board that they realize they can go get. Doing the deal early has me thinking it could be part of another deal. They're getting that pick this year to package it into some other deal whether its for a player or to move up in the draft (like say #25 and the 2nd round picks to move up into the teens)

Seems to me, a lot of people not connected to any of the suggested teams on any level other than one of spectator want this triumvirate of George/James/Leonard for the Lakers to happen. However, none of the receiving teams other than maybe Phoenix want to deal with Lozo Ball's dog and pony show or the Deng contract. At any rate, this is a set of interesting musings from people with apparently too much time on their hands.

The pros and cons of Lonzo Ball with the Phoenix Suns

That's one of the downfalls to drafting Ball.

Everyone knew LaVar was going to be a huge pain to deal with. Couple that with his poor shooting and Lonzo becomes almost untraceable.

However, had they drafted Tatum, there would be no shortage of suitors wanting to trade for him.

Revisionist history. Lonzo was the consensus #2 pick. Cant play the What If game.

Consensus #2?

Not even close. Most were debating Fultz or Tatum as the #1 overall.
That makes Ball as #3 overall at best.
And alot of teams had him lower because of his shooting form and his dad.

On the surface, this draft was uninspiring.

But they did so well last year, gotta wait and see how it turns out.

I wish you had been right. I'm lost with these picks. Moe and Svi are OK I guess, but are limited athletically and are really offense only, if not perimeter shooters only. They both will be defensive liabilities. Wasting the 39 that they traded for on a draft/stash for a pretty unathletic point forward is confusing at best.

Yeah, seems like quite a project for a 1st round pick

I don't think he's a project, I just don't see much upside. Limited defender, not very athletic or strong, can stretch the floor and plays with a lot of effort, but how much is that going to get you in the NBA when you can't match up athletically?

Don't particularly care for this draft. I have lots of doubts the 2nd round picks ever see the court and there were still guys available that I think could be viable players too. Mo is okish I guess. He's a big that can shoot but I was never overly wowed by him. Personally there's a handful of other players I would have taken there instead of him

Totally agree. Mo could have been gotten later. We will see. I don't care for this draft at this time. I hope I am wrong.

What the Lakers might have been doing is drafting for another team that will be a trade partner. San Antonio comes to mind.
