We were all concerned with the Astros, Angles, Sox and Yankees a the beginning of the month... We're 6-4 against them so far... Not bad... We still can finish strong in this series... Today's loss though is definitely frustrating...
I wasn't concerned about the Angles at home.

Overall they are 2-4 on the season against the astros, tied a series at home against Boston and looked pretty good in 3 of the 4 games, and have now looked like their typical selves in big road games and sucked in both games against NY. I entirely expect they either go 1-2 or 0-3 against Boston on the road. I don't like our pitching match ups in that series.

What was our record last year? Even if we do squeak into the 2nd WC spot, won't that be progress? We complain each year about our team and we're finally on the verge of a postseason appearance and you make this comment? Paxton go out and flame out? Are you hoping for that so you can be right?

What was your expectations for the team before the season started? I'm going to assume, not very good... If that is the case, aren't they exceeding your expectations?
Really? :L Both of the following are on this actual page even...
I mean honestly this is about what I expected. Maybe the M's are actually doing a bit better than I expected against the Red Sox/Yankees. I just really don't feel they are in the same league as either of them or Houston.

That doesn't mean they suck. They are miles and miles better than they have been the last 17 years.

M's just have more work to do to be more than a flash in the pan WC team that makes it there and gets sent packing quickly. JMO.
There are 7 teams over .500 and 8 under it. Hardly lopsided. M's just hit a streak for a while where they hit a whole lot more of the 8, than the 7. And the M's did exactly what they needed to do against those teams. Something they didn't do enough of in prior years. That's why I said they are kings of the second tier, but that's still an improvement. They aren't ready to get up on the porch with the big dogs yet, but they are fighting up on the steps to it anyway. I'll take that over the last 17 years.
So how are you confused? I think I've been pretty clear in saying they are well ahead of the last 17 years. And I've said over and over they are heading in the right direction. All I've said is they haven't reached their destination yet.

Did you expect them to do more than the "Flash in the pan" you're labeling them to be?

OK... ;)... They're still 6-4 during this stand against teams that were in the postseason picture, which includes the Angels at the time... I didn't expect them to have a winning record against Red Sox/Yankees... did you? I would be happy with a .500 record during the stretch...

Now. But certainly not when the M’s played them. Looking at the AL West exclusively there are 4 teams over .500 after Oakland’s current win streak. So you could definitely include Oakland in the over .500 club and they’ve played them twice since May 1st and beat them both series.

Regardless, point taken. I don’t believe this team is ready to hang with the big dogs as well. But given the circumstances... let’s not forget the M’s are 6-4 in June against the Angels, Astros, Red Sox and Yankees. I’ll take that at the moment.

I already answered your question. I don't understand why you are hung up on it. I honestly can't be more clear what I think of where they are, how far they have come, nor how much farther I believe they need to go. It's all right there in those quotes from this very thread.

They're meeting your expectation then, no?

I'd put the M's above the tribe, and the rest of those .500 teams outside of the big 3. That's why I've been saying for weeks I consider them the kings of the second tier. They have a lot going well for them. I mean we all pray they don't end up with some of the same injury bugs they have faced in recent years. And honestly that's a part of why they have improved. Their rotation was utterly destroyed last season in ways I've never seen. If they can keep the injuries down I'd like them in any real series not against those 3. Not a bad place for them to be in.

Again, I really don't know why you are having these issues. I've answered that. More than once. On several threads. How many different ways do I need to phrase it before it's acceptable to you?

By all account they should be exceeding everyone’s expectations and more. I had this team behide Oakland and barely above Texas at the start of the season.

Everyone on here needs to suck up their bottom lips and wipe the dripping snot from your nose. We're the fu***** diehards on this board, the ones that have gone through the most as fans having to endure loss after loss for whats been a lifetime for most of us. So we gave up a walk off HR to one of the best home run hitters in baseball against a top three team in all of baseball, who gives a shit!! Its one god damn game not the end of the season, chill the f*** out people!! What is this "Everyone be a Millenial" on the message boards today? All of a sudden nobody can handle a loss? Its the end of the season now? We suck and aren't even a playoff team? What fu**ing team are all of you watching!?!?

Pax is gonna go out there and shut these motherf****** down today boys, so put your big boy pants on and quit drinking your wives/girlfriends strawberry daiquiris for gods sake! We have a good team that needs adversity, every team needs adversity; its how you grow. They'll be fine, and if anything this will engage JeDi to somehow trade for more help.

This offense tends to park the bus whenever it has a lead. If you think about it most of the wins have been due to the bullpen having to hold 1 or 2 run leads. Very rarely does the offense put a game away. That kind of stuff works against weak team but against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium you cant just sit on your hands after the 5th inning. Especially when they were using Holder who is one of their worst relievers. We didn't get a hit off that guy. Not acceptable.

Frustrating thing for me is the fact that we run Cook out there with almost a 6 era instead of Diaz... Yet, the Yankees run their Ace out there in a tie game and maintain the lead... I have no idea why Cook was ran out there in that moment... Ugh...

Yeah that one had me confused as well. The whole save a closer for a save situation is absurd. I would have been more upset if I thought it would have made a difference but the offense clearly had shut down and wasn't scoring again. So this way we just lose earlier I think

4-8 against the Yanks, Red Sox and Astros. Probably are what we are which isn't a surprise.

True, but I don't think anyone has a delusional that this a WS bound team unless the Astros have every player on their team get injured but today will be a pretty good indicator of how the play in game will go. (I think the Red Sox will win the east)

I think it's more fun watching the Mariners when they are playing sub 500 teams. :pound:
Have a feeling this game is not going to be too much fun to watch :nono:

Severino is clearly not at his best today. Paxton has given up two "Yankee stadium" homers. Can the offense fucking nut up and bail out the starting pitcher. So many damn cookies down the middle of the plate that we just foul off or weakly hit. I don't give a damn who they are playing. Be better please

What sucks even more is for the 2nd inning we get the first batter on the bases (with zero outs) and can't get them plated. Z gets a lead off double after being 0 for 11 but can only get moved to 3rd. Shitty offense today and so many ops with Severino having his fair share of issues today.
