Do you think the Lakers actually start winning games before they get credit for how well they drafted? I'm not saying that they drafted poorly but it does seem a bit premature to give them credit for drafting well at this stage.

They improved their win total over last year and went 24-20 over the last 44 games of the season. They may have played well enough to be attractive to some top FA's and even if they don't get them, the fact that they are being discussed as seriously as they are speaks to what many think of what they've done.

So yes, I'd say they've drafted pretty well.

No because they are not at the same level.

Not one person has said they were on the same level.

This "debate" started because a Lakers fan tried to use stats to claim that they were similar players.

You need to make up your mind. Did he say they were on the same level?

Or did he say they were similar and use stats to back it up?

Or maybe you could just show us where the Lakers fan touched you?

I was told that the Spurs should thank their lucky stars if LA is willing to trade Ingram for Kawhi only.

That person doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about.

No way in hell the Spurs would do that deal without getting Deng too.

Warriors didn't start winning until Steph's second contract (6th seed). That's the time frame for the Lakers now, with Randle hitting his second contract. Had they not been run by short Buss for too long, they may have made the playoffs by now, but that's old crap now (thank god he's gone). It was always going to be tough once Kobe retired, and bottoming out seems to be the rebuilding plan for most these days. Sixers definitely jumped up quicker, props to them.

The Lakers are on the move as they acquire a pick from Philadelphia and may select the players or put together a package deal to move up as teams are wanting to move down.

Lakers Reportedly Trade 2019 2nd-Round Pick to 76ers for No. 39 Overall Pick

My first thought was it's either a pick to include in a Kawhi trade (or a pick for the Lakers to use instead of #25 which could be in such a trade) or it's ammunition to move up from #25. More intrigue for Lakers fans heading into the draft, even if it's just another pick to use...

Actually, the exact opposite of that.

Kyrie is a scorer first second and third. He is looking to create his own offense. Lonzo Ball, while not nearly on Kyrie's level overall is a much better facilitator than Kyrie.

If you want to talk about which player's point guard does more to create opportunities for them, the answer is Kuzma.

Maybe, but better teammates overall helps spread the floor. There are lots of variables. Plus, Kuzma (behind Ingram at the 3 and Randle at the 4) probably plays more with the second team than Tatum, so a percentage of those opportunities are likely coming from the backup PG.

It's all minutiae; all I said was Kuzma was a similar player to Tatum, not that he was better or equal or as good of a defender. The stats show that.

My point was simply that we shouldn't give the Lakers credit until they turn the corner. That might happen this year.

You are arguing semantics now to defend a silly argument. Here is what Shopson said....

"Individually, obviously Tatum is the best of the bunch thus far (although I would argue Kuzma is a very similar player),"

Maybe he wasn't trying to create an equivalency but it sure looked like it.

If you sign Lebron and Paul George, you don't wait around for a year to sign Kawhi. Things can change in a year. The Lakers weren't aggressive in trying to get George, and there's a realistic possibility that George may re-sign in OKC, which could impact Lebron's decision.

Yep, LeBron isn't going there in anticipation of them signing Leonard next year.

I wasn't. It's the same problem whenever somebody compares a lesser player to a better player. There should be no problem in comparing; it's equating that's problem.

The problem with this specific example is that you were comparing the 2 draft groups of the Lakers and the Celtics. You concede that Tatum is the best player of the bunch but then try to balance it out by saying "But Kuzma is very similar" and then using stats to defend that point.

We all can get caught up overhyping our players. Part of being a fan. Heck some of the Celtics fans here are absolutely ridiculous with their hyping.

It would be a S&T next year if they already have 2 max contracts on hand.

It would have to be up to the Spurs to facilitate that trade. Yes, more often than not, you'd like to get a return for a player if he's going to leave regardless. But Kawhi's yet to sign his super max contract, and he's going to cost himself a lot of money. I don't see the Spurs wanting to honor his wishes and he being forced into a corner.

The whole fucking argument is silly, semantical bullshit.
