Set your DVR for this Saturday at 2pm CST, they're televising one of the College WS tournament games featuring Oregon St and our top pick Nick Madrigal. I believe their opponent is North Carolina. The game is on ESPN. Looking forward to seeing him at the plate and on the field.

Same. Fangraphs released their updated "post-draft" prospect list. Madrigal was #33 overall. I can't find a naysayer on the selection. Definitely pulling for him in the CWS.

Normally, I could give a hoot as to who wins the tourney, but in this matter I'm pulling big time for OS because I want to see as much of Madrigal as possible.

Meh... Not the place to start that debate, but I disagree.

I am not going to argue over this but I am curious why you disagree. He plead guilty. Zero chance someone pleads guilty to a crime like that to help his family avoid time in a negative light.

That's just outright incorrect. There's countless examples to the contrary. Plenty plead guilty out of fear to crimes that carry harsh sentences and are exonerated later. A lot of r*pe cases that have been cleared years later by DNA are a HUGE part of that category. So, yes - sex crimes fall into that category.

Especially when you take into account that he had a baseball future and wanted to keep it all as quiet as possible. Especially when you take into account he was a minor and I'm sure he was told it would disappear when he became an adult. I also know that DA didn't see it fit to put him on trial as an adult. Which is a very important detail for me.

Regardless... He's been a model student, model teammate and model citizen as an adult. I know that many people, with A LOT to lose in life have stuck their neck out for him at OSU. I don't know what happened. I don't even know the alleged details. I just know that the above things are what he is now. I think it's very possible he did nothing. I think it's very possible that I am willing to give him a second chance, regardless.

you are correct I shouldnt have said zero but slim chances a 15 year old kid would do that. Honestly I doubt he could wrap his head around it. I would be more willing to give the benefit of the doubt if the alleged victim was his age but not a toddler. I just cant get passed that part of the equation. Granted I dont know the finer points, but I frankly dont want to.

Well, it's kind of vague and just says "inappropriate touching". Which truly is just one word against another. It's also something that could be entirely misconstrued between a toddler speaking to his/her parent. I could easily see an over protective mother freaking out at her toddler saying "he touched me". At that point, there's also a lot of data for kids at that age. Which suggests parents can be so overbearing in the interrogation of their own kid's that they can facilitate and plant memories. This can also transpire if a parent is constantly asking a child if he/she has been touched.

I would suggest looking into some of the daycare scandals of the 1980's - if you wish to confirm that I'm not just talking out of my ass as some kind of an "apologist". Those scandals were so widespread that they coined the term "Late Onset Female Sexual Offender". Which, we now know... is non-existent bull shit. These female daycare workers did nothing and were given some of the longest sentences in US history (300 years... etc...). As somebody who studied psychology, I do have a bit more knowledge on this topic than the average person. Although, I don't have a doctorate or anything on that level.

Kind of a moot point - as zero 15 year old kids in that position with competent parents is thinking entirely on his own with that situation. They're being walked through the pros and cons of every potential move. Again, you have to keep in mind the very realistic thought process of "If I plead guilty, I'm a minor. So this should never leak and will keep my baseball career alive. Then it all disappears from my record when I am 18."

You also have to consider within plea bargains. The DA office can pose that offer in a very appealing light (even using his young age against him) and then threatening a horrible option #2 if he doesn't agree to the plea deal. As in... "Your life will be effectively over from the consequences you suffer. Unless you plead guilty."

Willingly registering as a sex offender seems like a stretch. However we dont know all the details and never will. I would rather just avoid the headache all together and just have my Gators win it all
