• It was the third time the River Cats have been shut out during the 2018 season, with all three occasions coming on the road. They have blanked the opponent twice, both at home.

• With just four hits, Sacramento tied their season-low that was previously set on June 3 when they were shut out by the El Paso Chihuahuas.

I cannot remember how the Cal League All-Stars are selected but half of these guys are head scratchers. I agree that Miler and Webb have All-Star numbers but there's nothing special about the other guys. Fargas has a weak slash line, and even his on base is not that great, considering his lack of power. Franco may have 22 doubles, but only has 1 triple and 1 home run. His OPS is around .710. Cabrera's ERA is 3.62, his WHIP is 1.61 and he's K'd 58 in 67 IPs (in fact, there is not much to write home about with SJ pitching this year, in general). Yawn. I think that Gio Brusa, Matt Winn and Heath Quinn are much more deserving. Winn is hitting .252/.322/.466 so far, putting up the best production amoungst any catcher in the Giants' farm. I realize that Quinn was injured for a bit, but his .344/.403/.520 is the best on the team, with Brusa the closest at .252/.327/.510.

Keep in mind that there is only 8 teams in the Cal League. I'm sure the only reason Quinn wasn't selected was because of injury. Brusa is a weird omission if only because his game is tailor-made for All-Star games. But he was injured as well.

IDK for sure, but they might have a mandate for a certain amount of players from each team or position.

I looked up the picks for the North Team and the whole thing is frickin' joke. There are two Visalia catchers, one of which just went on the dl. There are two Modesto 1st basemen, one of which got promoted to AA, so maybe Brusa gets the call. There are only three outfielders, and one of them is a 25 year old from Stockton who has a .280/.333/.394 slash.
Fargas isn't even listed on the link I found, so he may be replacing one of the guys whom either got promoted or went on the dl, but why Fargas?
The rosters were announced on June 11th. Quinn was activated the day before and Brusa a week before that. I don't know how long before the announcement is the selection process, but Quinn should have at least been a replacement to a guy not able to play. Just my very opinionated two cents.

Let's all pull together our money and buy it! We could bring back the co-op teams that used to exist in the late 80s/early 90s.

I'm sure their mascot, Woolly-Bully hasn't had much work lately, and might work on the cheap.

When my son was in college, and we lived in SoCal, we went to every minor league stadium in the area one spring/summer. High Desert was having "Dollar Beer Night", so my son got a few of his college buddies to go. I told them not to get their hopes up, but what the heck, it was "Dollar Beer Night"!

We got there, and the lads discovered that the dollar beers were being served in dixie cups. I got my son to calculate the cost per ounce, and it was cheaper to buy the regular overpriced crappy beer than the dollar cup of overpriced crappy beer.

Lesson learned.

The dollar hot dogs were awesome, though, even though after the beer experience, I was expecting the little cocktail weenies. Nope. Regular dogs.

Well there goes my Keanton Winn strictly as a reliever theory. I like the aggressive promotion.

The Cal League derby was today, interestingly Jalen Miller was in it. Finished with 8

Other notes:

I'm telling y'all, Webb is a guy to keep an eye on

Looks like the AZL Orange squad is where pitchers go to rehab. Currently, they have three on the roster: Chris Heston, Domenic Mazza and Sam Wolff.

Apparently Wolff is going to get into a game tonight

With Israel Cruz on the AZL Black squad, we will be getting our first real looks at the return for Matt Moore. By the way, was there any designation on what the future considerations the Giants would send the Rangers? Did they later send money?

International Slot bonus money looks like. Was there supposed to be more?

Rangers Acquire Matt Moore

I was looking at Israel Cruz' player page and the trade listed Matt Moore and future considerations. I couldn't remember if that part of the trade was completed. I forgot about the bonus money.

Jason Bahr promoted to San Jose

Had 88 K's in 68.2 innings, 52 hits. Low-mid 90s fastball with sink and a good curveball
He deserves the promotion and the Augusta roster needed room to activate Aaron Phillips.
