Flippin' short buss has effed this team so badly that the Deng contract has now become the last vestige and massive reminder of the level of damage a complete knucklehead given access to power can render on a franchise.

I have stated this all along. This business of going after the max contract guys just because they are available and the Lakers have the means (even though Magic has stated he would not do this) is overrated and it would be in the Lakers long-term best interests (who are just now getting out from underneath the effects of the aforementioned trades) to stick with their young core and continue to build.

Actually, the plan since before Magic and Pelinka officially took over has been to clear the cap space to sign 2 max level players.

What Magic said was that the Lakers were "not going to spend money, just to spend money." Meaning that if they don't land any max level guys this off-season, they aren't going to overpay some 2nd or 3rd tier guys just so they can say they did something.

If they don't land any max level guys, I expect that they will probably bring back Randle (he can be traded later if need be), sign a couple of Lopez/KCP types to 1 year deals and preserve the cap space for next off-season.

2. The Lakers would have to give up Ingram or Lonzo Ball - to dump Luol Deng - but they did give up Mozgov for less - so who knows. I'm not holding my breath

They gave up the No. 2 pick after 2 seasons. It is pretty much the exact same thing as giving up Ingram.

D'angelo Russell was a #3 as I recall, I personally think that Ingram for Leonard is a enough - but the Spurs are not likely to trade him to a competitor in their own conference - that is a dead on arrival

I believe that Randle is ready and worthy of a really good contract - but I am against these super-max contracts for any player. It is insane to pay one player like Curry one-third of your entire salary - Curry is getting 35 million dollars

You recall incorrectly, and no Ingram for Leonard isn't close to enough unless you are wearing purple and gold colored goggles while analyzing the potential deal.

You think Brandon Ingram straight up for the Kawhi Leonard is a fair deal?

In no scenario or any dimension is a one-for-one trade involving Kawhi Leonard and Ingram a good trade. There's no way this would happen. As far as the CBA goes, the salaries would have to match, so this would never go through anyway. But from a skill standpoint, that's grossly one-sided.

I think even those with the Purple and Gold goggles would take those off for a second and really question why someone would say that. Ingram *may* turn out to be an all star level player down the road. But Kawhi is without a doubt the best two-way player in the game and alters any franchise he's on.

Even then, I'm willing to bet that 90% of the Lakers fans on here realize that Ingram is not in the same tier as Kawhi.....not even close.

Right now those 2 shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. Kawhi has already proven to everyone who he is on the court. Ingram not so much. Plus not even sure the Spurs would want to trade him to a WC team.

I'm sure he was the same way about Russell right up until he was traded.

No he isn't, right. Now, but the premise would be that the two best young players that still have a lot of growing to do will be both a good fit for the Spurs And reach that potential. YOU ALL ACT AS IF THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, BUT that' the way it happens. The Grizzlie didn' get a P.au Gasol either when they got back Marc, but look what they ended up with. The fact that Popvich will never do that trade has nothing to with its not the best trade out there. It's because he is blinded by his hatred of the Lakers like most of you.

The point is that when you have to give up a good player you take back draft picks that have an unknown potential and future for you and yes it's a gamble but you act like it never has happened and never that could happen when it does it happens every year like that so it's not out of the normal if not an impossibility at all outside of the fact that Popovich hates the Lakers and will be blinded by his hate

It doesn't always turn out like that. Every player has their ceiling. You perceive my comments saying that Ingram won't improve. I literally said that Ingram could very well turn out to be a star player. But I'm also saying there's a strong possibility that he won't ever get to the level that Kawhi's on now. And I don't hate the Lakers right now, my opinion is putting myself in the shoes of Popovich. That's the thing that you and some Lakers fans keep forgetting - Kawhi's under contract for one more year and by all accounts, Pop's not trading him to the Lakers.
