Lots of places better than Taco Bell as far as “Mexican fast food” goes.

Long before I had anything from Taco Bell we were driving down to Freebirds in College Station (the old one over on northgate area) for a monster burrito. I remember it being kind of small with an easy rider motorcycle hanging from the ceiling. I went to one up here in the DFW area and it just wasn’t as good.

In Taco Bell’s defense, they used to be about the only place open after the bars closed. Back then they didn’t have much of a menu. Soft/crunchy Tacos and a couple of different burrito options.

Even in food deserts, your town has a Mexican Restaurant where you can get a Santa Fe Chicken and a big ass Margarita and someone gives you a bunch of chips before your meal with some very, very limited English. I've literally seen towns with less than 20,000 people with multiple Mexican Restaurants. Its still Americanized and people still go to them on a regular basis because we're all a bunch of fatasses but we dont need to worry about Taco Bell taking over like Demolition Man.

I have never heard of McDonald's using sand as filler or not having a high enough meat content in their "meat" to be threatened to take away the right to legally call it meat.

Not surprised at all. They are the cheapest by far and they are everywhere. I prefer Taco Time if I do lower myself to fast food standards, but they get expensive in a hurry.

As far as restaurants go... Given the nature of that market its easy to see why. Not many chains, and most of those are family owned businesses.

Places like Chipotle, Qdoba, etc are very different than taco bell. I don't think anybody goes to them to be cool. That would be a very odd line of thinking. Not everywhere has it but taco johns is more in line with taco bell and is much better in my opinion.

I love Tex-Mex, but there aren't any near me. I see one near my mom's next time I go to visit, but even down 40 I don't really see any on the way(not counting Memphis, where I'm not stopping).
