CBS moved the Tigers all the way up to #21 on their Power Rankings this week.

D'Backs are #3. They have quietly put together the second best record in MLB.

Could have taken your pick between VerHagen and Farmer. Both have given up 7 walks in 10 IP. Both have good stuff, but shitty command. Farmer's WHIP is considerably higher at 2.00. I guess Farmer can spot-start if it comes to that, which may explain why he's still with the big league team.

Tigers get another lower level team to play. The Pirates started hot but have lost 6 out of their last 7 games and four in a row. Even though they are away games....Detroit has a shot at taking 2 out of 3. Then they go to Baltimore, which have been awful (lost 9 of last 10). Tigers have a chance to have a decent six game road trip....despite being nothing more than a AAA level club themselves.

Oh yeah, that weak AL West ... which has 4 of 5 teams over .500. LOL The AL Central has four teams UNDER .500.

Outside of Cleveland and one game against the Yankees, the Tigers have been playing against all weak opponents to date.

I imagine that Zimmermann will continue to be part of the rotation for several more turns. Considering his performances and contract, the Tigers have no other option. Sure, you could put him in the pen....and I am sure that will come, in time. But the bottom line is.....the Tigers have NOTHING to replace him with. Chad Bell? Artie Lewicki? Warwick Saupold? Ryan Carpenter? Just AAA cannon fodder. I'd just as soon gamble on Zim suddenly finding his old self.
Just my opinion....but keep Zimmermann in the rotation until he totally bottoms out (he is getting close). Then stick him in the pen, but start planning on seeing the Tigers ''eat'' $50-60 million when they dump him this summer or fall.
