Made some beef ribs this weekend.

They were a little too rich/fatty, but overall pretty good

Need some advice! Signed up for a potluck at work to do some pulled pork. Never done it before but sounds easy enough. Going to put a pork roast in the crockpot tonight and was going to use this recipe:

Slow Cooker Texas Pulled Pork Recipe

*Pork shoulder roast
*Veggie oil
*BBQ Sauce
*Apple cider vinegar
*chicken broth
*brown sugar
*yellow mustard
*worcestershire
*chili powder
*white onion
*garlic cloves
*thyme

  1. Pour the vegetable oil into the bottom of a slow cooker. Place the pork roast into the slow cooker; pour in the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and chicken broth. Stir in the brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, onion, garlic, and thyme. Cover and cook on High until the roast shreds easily with a fork, 5 to 6 hours.
  2. Remove the roast from the slow cooker, and shred the meat using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker, and stir the meat into the juices.

I'll probably use a 3-5lb roast with Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce, and use the crockpot on LOW (10-12hrs) overnight. Shred it in the morning and then let it simmer until lunch. Any tips, recommendations, and/or advice is much appreciated!

Nah, but hoping someone else does. I figured I'm going above & beyond signing myself up to do the meat portion of a potluck. So far other people have signed up for Potato Salad & Baked beans as the only sides. I'm sure more will sign up today.

I'd love to help, but that's something I've never done. Honestly, I've never cooked anything in a crockpot (my wife does and it's good - I'm not saying it's not, just that I've never done it).

At the risk of sounding like a fag, though, I will say that something about Sweet Baby Ray's has bummed me out. For years, their Sweet & Spicy BBQ sauce has been my favorite, but I just realized that the #1 ingredient is High Fructose Corn Syrup and I really try to avoid that for me and my family.

I remember enjoying some Rufus Teague BBQ sauce. I might look into that.

Then again, I've been making my own lately (from a Weber recipe), that's really good.

At the risk of sounding like a stupid blind consumerist whore, what about High Fructose Corn Syrup deters you from eating it? I feel like I need to do some homework on it now lol. Just high sugar?

Never really ventured out into the BBQ sauce world... Other than what other people bring to BBQ's & potlucks. That's how I was introduced to Sweet Baby Rays.

Definitely open to recommendations.

Admittedly, I'm not an expert by any means, but from what I have read, it's pretty nasty stuff that the human body has no idea how process. There's some linkage to diabetes and whatnot. I'm noticing there's a lot of "no High Fructose Corn Syrup" marketing on packaging lately, so there's that.

It's just a cheaper sugar substitute. It's not worse for you than sugar (IMO, not an expert). The problem isn't the HFCS, it's that is in everything now and sugar intake, be it from HCFS or natural sugar is too high for most americans

I'm not saying eat HFCS with reckless abandon, nothing will go wrong. It's basically sugar

but some of it is marketing.

Just like Gluten free

Well all sugar can be linked to diabeetus in some way or another. I think what @PnkPanther said is spot on. Cheap substitute, but in moderation its not harmful (as is with all sugars)

I've done pulled beef in slowcooker, not pork, but this looks good. Make sure you use pork shoulder and not the loin
