Found last year's daily thread and bumping that title wouldn't work!

After getting two nice days last week, it's been nothing but clouds, 40s and stiff winds. I was gonna skip yesterday but my bud was going so I braved it....holy hell I couldn't feel my fingers and by the end of about 12 holes, we called it a day.

I haven't started to score rounds for my handicap yet but will soon. My course is much longer than I'm accustomed to and I'm hitting a 5 iron or 6 iron into the greens. On a couple of holes I've had to approach with a 5 wood into a stiff wind. Definitely gonna be looking at the new drivers this year.

I got a round in a couple weeks ago. Walked the course and was getting stuck behind a pair that wouldn't let me play through. Just when I think they would when I'm putting, they tee off and drive their cart on down. Then I'd have to wait for them to hit at least their next shots, if not two more, in order to not hit into them. Rinse and repeat for the entire back nine. Really throws off any rhythm.

Since the greens were aerated and plenty of sand on them, I knew I wasn't going to get true rolls and didn't keep up with my score. If I had to guess, it would've been a typical mid-80 score for me.

Do plan to get out this afternoon with my brother at another course depending on its condition. They sometimes only mow the front and I've actually lost a handful of balls in the middle of the 'fairway'. When it's maintained, it's one of the better public courses around.

Will also give me an opportunity to try out the Supersofts I got from Lostgolfballs.

Sweet, hit 'em straight.

The conditions at my new course are just impeccable. They cut out some sod over a water pipe and it sits there with 6 inches of rich dark topsoil underneath each section. You carve divots like the ball was sitting on butter. I'm used to the dandelion roots and gravel of our local munis!

Shot a 46 front and 40 back. Kept pulling my tee shot during the front, so I just left the driver in the bag on the back, hitting my 4 iron. Ended up with 5 GIR on the back. Completely different off the tee compared to my last outing when I was crushing it straight, so not sure what was going on other than it just being the second time out and still inconsistent.

The Supersofts played like new, so I'll be a repeat customer for Lostgolfballs, especially since I lost a few during my front 9 today, pulling the drive into the woods.

Well...once the weather kicks, you might find it plays a little shorter...hard to compress the ball when it's that chilly, and the air seems heavier. At least here...in the winter...no wind 150 yd shot, I swing a 7I, from May thru DEC that's an 8I.

Speaking of new drivers...I play the Titleist 913D3 (440 cc head). I went and hit the new 917D3 in the store and did so A/B swings with my driver and the new one. I'm starting to lean a little towards the new one, but the longest by far for me was the Callaway Rogue, and Ping G400.

I've never paid more than $230 (what I got the 913 for) for a driver so I'm pumping the brakes on a new driver for now, but we'll see how those prices hold up.

No golf for me this past weekend so I'm still sitting on 7 rounds for 2018.

Worked on it Saturday and rain out yesterday...this weekend is projecting nice weather so I'm sure I'll get a round in. Fairways are just coming our of dormancy so in another week or so, we'll have a decent cushion under the ball.

I don't get to play but once a month or so. Tough to work on my game as well. Toddler and an 8 month pregnant wife will do that to you I guess

I'm leaning toward buying the G400 based upon all the many posts I've read from golfers who went to the store intending to buy the Rogue or something else and walked out with the Ping. It's said to be by far the easiest to hit.

Aesthetically, it's ugly as shit but I'm gonna do a trial\fitting day at our club and we'll see what happens.

Agreed, and we're also not getting much roll on the soft fairways. Still, an added 10yds off the driver would sure help at this place.

One guy in our group has the G400 and he's already pretty long...good drive to good drive, he's 15+ past me...the only difference I've seen is his mishits are still out there 240+.

The Titleist 918 is coming out this fall I think...they normally do a pretty good job of bleeding down inventory to transition, but I will be looking again around July.

Playing here Sat. about 15 mins from the house.

It's one of the longer tracks we play...6600+ from the blue tee box...tough track, about half a dz forced carries off the tee...including the 1st three holes...137 slope. One of the few courses I play that still has bent grass greens.

Mid 80 is a good score for me there.

We shall see.

Sounds like a great score at a club that long.

The distance is a little deceiving. It's not like you're facing a steady diet of 425+ yd par 4s. The ones that are play downhill a good bit. It's wide enough to land your tee ball, so you can pull the big stick on most of the driving holes, and a lot of the length is in the par 5s...the back has 3 par 5, 4, 3 and 2 of those par 5s on are reachable in two.

The thing that drives the slope up are the forced carries...visually more intimidating than the actually carry. #18 does require about 200 yds to carry, but the others are no more than 170-180 yd carry.

If you hit it solid you will have a decent scoring club into the green...7i or less.

Sounds nice.

It would take a much bigger hitter than me to reach any of our par 5s in two.

....next big story for me and I'm still really nervous...I played a number of days in a row and have badly tweeked my left shoulder which suffered a partial rotator cuff tear 4 years ago that cost me a year of golf. After 3 days it finally feels better this morning so I'm PRAYING that a week off will heal me. It would be the definition of suck if I dropped coin on a private membership and then couldn't play.

So fingers crossed~

OMG...NE!

Lay low brother...still chilly, you've stretched something or tweaked it like you said.

The excitement of a new track like that would have me itching to get out as much as possible too, but you got plenty of time...if you think a week off is good, take two.

FWIW...I've worked a lot this offseason, on 30-40 yds and in, so I don't have to actually reach the green in two have a decent (inside 15') look at birdie...I don't have your wedge game for sure, but I'm working on that as well now that we have some grass growing on the range.

played 18 on Sunday. Hit the ball well and drained some pretty decent length putts once my hangover wore off. By the 12th hole, I was starting to tire out. The first 18 holes of the season always do that to me.

Yeah, kids will hamper the times out. Mine are 5 and 3, so I'm able to get out a little more on a weekend when they go down for a nap after lunch, so I'm not leaving the wife for too long without help.

Same here. I've got to get out at least on a weekly basis to build up my endurance. My hands were screaming at me the last 4 holes I played this past Saturday.

surprisingly I didn't have an issue with my hands. Usually I will get a spot on my thumb or something, but nothing this time.

Maybe I can get out for 9 holes this weekend. That wouldn't be too bad. Maybe I can at least get to the range.

I think I owe my gf some time on the tennis court too.

Well my shoulder is much better so I'm encouraged by that because the time I had a tear it did not feel any better for weeks. This morning I was able to flip a few little half wedges without pain but I'm going to wait at least until mid next week before I actually try to hit a full shot. Even at that, for a while I'll hit a 9 iron from 110 and a 7 iron from 130 and so forth just to swing easy.

What a fuckin' drag but at least there's hope.

Our league starts on Tuesday and I already got a sub :(
