Well, how many teams get defensive backs that play like Bob Sanders. There's hardly any out there, and those that are out there are very injury prone. I loved watching Bob Sanders. It's just a risky style to recruit.

Are you talking about the timeout at the end to ice the kicker and the kicker missed? Almost all coaches call that timeout. If he called it after the kick, yes I would agree. But the center still had the ball when KF called the timeout.

You talk about those coaches and the improvement to those programs to start their tenure. 4 years into his tenure and Iowa were co-B1G champions and in the Orange Bowl. Also, KF had to literally build his program, wasn't given anything when he took the job.

My favorite was the timeout he called after the jump pass. Did he think that the time was going to run while ISU set up for the PAT or did he have to run to the locker room and get more chewing gum? I can kind of cut some slack on the final timeout but I'd take my chances not calling one. That will be the last GW field goal that kicker will have the rest of his career at ISU so let's see what kind of stones the kid has.

Ya'll can say what you will, but I'm sick, tired and frustrated with this regime. Do I think Iowa will fire KF? No, and frankly I'd be pissed if we wasted that money. Iowa agreed to pay the dude the money and should have to live with that decision.

Iowa is NOT a big time CF program and has ZERO business paying a coach the type of money Kirk is getting. That is on the school.

Will I watch the game against Pitt? Of course I will. I'm a Hawkeye and unfortunately (most times), I have no other CFB team I want to watch.

I just hope they win, maybe if I don't watch the game and they win, I will not watch the rest and they will go undefeated...I sort of have a pass anyway, with 2 kids and their stuff going on, have been lucky to watch the first 3 anyway.

It really doesn't matter what any of us think, only what Barta and Mason think, they control it all...just feels like we are not a good team really for the past 4 years, 2 big wins in 4 years, 3 if you count beating Mizzou in that Insight Bowl I guess.

Been busy too. Damn DVR. The last 2 weeks I've started watching about the start of the 2nd half and caught up to live by the end.

A bunch of interesting comments here. My two cents:

A) Coaching reorganization - year 1, took KF to make a decision on hiring; year 2, more coaching changes; year 3...only one more coach to change - and that's the head coach (strike 3)

B) Winning games - brings in donor dollars on a large scale; allows for upgrades to the facilities to happen; winning brings in bigger/faster/stronger/star recruits. Exhibit A - see Oregon, Boise St, Stanford, and a number of other coaches and programs

C) Coaching salaries - how many of those coaches on the list have National Championships? Enough said....

D) Coaching performance on game day - KF has to be about on the bottom here. His in game coaching errors are epic and numerous. Given his salary, that should never happen!!

E) Recruiting - KF isn't bringing in the caliber of skills needed in major conference football. Speed kills. Iowa doesn't have any that is constantly being used. Powell might be the fastest player on the roster, but he isn't getting game looks/passes. Yes, Iowa has had a long run of injuries at the RB position, but the RBs that we currently have belong in CUSA, the MAC, the MWC, and the AAC. It isn't a coop to swoop in and steal a recruit from Texas that has verbalized to play Colorado St.

F) Fry versus Ferentz - this is easy...I'll take Fry any day!!! Fry: rebuilt Iowa Football, wasn't afraid to put a lot of points on the score board every Saturday, on average had 10-11 regular season games and a bowl invite...yet found a way to get Iowa to the Rose Bowl (that matters to the good-ol-boys in these parts), and most importantly --- coached to ACTUALLY win games. Yes, at the end of Fry's time at Iowa, the cupboard was rather bare. But take a close look at what Ferentz has in the cupboard and it is mirroring Fry's. Ferentz has the luxury of taking his team to a bowl game simply because more bowls exist now than when Fry was at the helm. During Fry's tenure, a January 1st bowl game was huge...today, a 6-6/7-5 team can play on January 1st. That very fact is a complete embarrassment.

G) Iowa's remaining schedule is soft. However, if the teams on Iowa's schedule continue to put up 30+ points...no way does Iowa win many of those games. Nothing is on tape that indicates Iowa can score 30+ points against CFP teams. Iowa's defense will tire - like usual - and won't be able to stop teams. Classic example in the ISU game: ISU had a 3rd and 5 on that last drive and completes a 7 yard pass for a 1st down. Under KF, that is the norm and it continues to cost the program wins - especially against teams they should be defeating easily.

H) Two points have summed up my view of KF. Awhile back KF said two things: 1st) "...an 8-4 season is a good season..." and 2nd) "...I've got offensive plays that no one has ever seen yet..." Those two statements have turned into a waiting game for Ferentz to leave the program. Losing games is not okay - in any sport. I wonder how many games KF would have won if the plays no one has ever seen would have been run?

I would be surprised if Iowa won 7 football games this season. Yes, that could happen, but so could another 4-8 season this year. If Iowa's game against ISU was a conservative offensive approach, wait until we get to see the game at Pitt in a few days.

Anyone suggesting Ferentz is a better coach than Hayden Fry is absurdly stupid.

without Fry, you wouldn't have what, 20 some coaches in the game today...still it's hard to compare the two, but an easy one as well since it is mentor and mentee...take a look at Fry's other coaches in his tree, do any of them have such a conservative mindset as KF? McCarney lived to beat Iowa, Stoops has National Champion by his name, all of them seem to have that die hard gritty spirit

What surprises me is that KF is from Pennsylvania, where I think of tough nose football and just always fighting and getting at it. I think he needs to spend all week there reconnecting while his staff runs practices, maybe his time back home will wake him up.

Floored that anyone in their right mind could actually defend Ferentz right now. This is his very lowest point in school history and we've all seen this coming with this awful style of football. If you actually enjoy Iowa football right now you likely enjoy staring at walls watching paint dry too.

But these are message boards and people love to argue for the sake of arguing. So I guess nothing surprises me.

According to data reported to the Department of Education last year, Iowa ranks No. 11 in athletic revenue among all college programs. What’s more, its $30 million in profits are second only to Alabama ($34 million), topping even Texas ($27 million) and Notre Dame ($20 million). Those earnings are a bit of an anomaly for Iowa, but it also reported profits over $14 million in two of the previous three years. Even if things fall back to that level, the school’s athletic department would be looking at giving up around 25% of its annual earnings to afford the cost of firing Ferentz.

The day Iowa wastes $17 mil firing KF, better be the day there are no hungry kids and furloughed teachers in the state.

Everyone says Iowa doesn't pay KF though, the boosters do, but the reports say he is the highest paid public employee of the state of Iowa. Can someone clear this up? I say he gets paid by U of I, but the boosters send enough money in to cover it. However, if the team continues this spiral, what is the point of sending in money? Not sure what all the boosters get in exchange, but a losing record to ISU is likely not something they would list as a desire.

One sure way to put pressure on KF and Barta...is if the fans stop coming to games and Kinnick looks empty for their remaining home games.

HRURF,

I understand you can't punish the players, they are the collateral damage for a losing program because of the abilities of the head coach and his staff.

Carver was empty...and changes were made

Same deal for Kinnick...the corners of the stadium are already looking to be empty. Now the boosters might pick up the tab for those few seats, but how long will that last?
