A quick, back of the envelope look at the likely starters:

Pitcher (Career or 2010 ERA+, 2010 WAR, 2010 postseason ERA, 2010 postseason WHIP)

1. Lee (130, 4.3, 0.75, 0.58) at Lincecum (142, 3.5, 1.93, 0.81) -- slight advantage Lee
2. Lewis (116, 3.6, 1.45, 1.18) at Chez (133, 3.4, 2.93, 1.04) -- even
3. Cain (130, 3.9, 0.00, 1.02) at Wilson (129, 4.6, 3.93, 1.20) -- big advantage Cain
4. Bumgarner (142, 2.2, 3.55, 1.42) at Hunter (116, 2.4, 6.14, 1.50) -- big advantage Bumgarner.

Note also that Texas only has one lefty (Wilson) so Panda may see some action in this round.

So, I think we can split the first two, and then take 3 & 4 in Arlington. That puts us up 3-1 with Timmy going for the clincher in game 5 on the road. Hunter is even worse than Blanton.

I wonder if it would be better to start Cain in Game 1 because he hasn't pitched in a while (don't want him to get rusty) and to give Lincecum extra rest. I guess the problem would be that Timmy wouldn't be available for a relief appearance late in the series (as was the case in the NLCS) because starting him in Game 2 would mean that he would be the Game 6 starter.

I would be okay with this.

I still go with Freak-Cainer-Chez-MadBum.

The brass agreed with you. I trust these guys implicitly now, but anyone else a little nervous with Sanchez pitching game 7? I guess you can use the entire pen that game...Tim can pitch a little, Madbum, etc.

Flipping Cain and Chez actually gives us a larger pitching advantage in the series.

This. Plus, I think this team can put the Rangers away in 6. No sense planning for game 7 before game 1. Josh Hamilton is going to hate Javier Lopez, by the way. He is 1 for 3 lifetime against him with a double, RBI and a walk, but with all the pressure to perform, I think he'll try to pull the ball against him. Lefties cannot pull Lopez unless he really misses his spot. Hooray for that.

I wish Texas were as lefty as Philly, that's what made Lopez so valuable and a big reason we won the NLCS. Can we say the same about Romo/Casilla?

I sure hope so. Have the rosters been announced? Are they thinking Chris Ray could slip in for one of those guys or Mota. Ray and Zito to replace Mota and Affeldt? Too much change? While I'm at it, any chance Jose Guillen wants to stop being a bitch and help the Giants get ready for a team that he has faced a few times before. If I thought he was healthy (physically and emotionally), I would definitely want him playing in the World Series over Rowand for DHing alone. Does Pat the Bat still hate DHing?

I have a feeling Pat would gladly be the water-boy for this team right now if he thought that was what was needed to help us win.

Agreed, but I wouldn't mind seeing Guillen in the DH role. Pat doesn't seem like a detriment in the OF.....he just doesn't seem like a plus either (defensively speaking of course). I wonder if Guillen has sulked his way off of this team though? If the Giants are a more cohesive team with Rowand in there instead of Guillen, I'm all for that too.

In Texas:

CF - Torres
2B - Franchez
1b - Huff
C- Posey
LF - Burrell
RF - Ross
DH - Guillen
3B - Uribe
SS - Renteria

I don't think Guillen is an option, going off Bochy's interview today. He said he was going to go with Tim/Cain/Chez/Bum as a rotation, and that DH would be either Huff or Panda, depending. He mentioned that Burrell isn't comfortable DHing. I'd expect to see Ishi at first in games 3 and 4 with Huff DH, and Panda DHing in game 5. I'd also assume that Panda will play 3b in game 3 to give Rent a rest since he's going to play 1 & 2.

I like this. Having Ishi in the field without losing Huff's bat is worth at least one extra out per game, in my opinion. Guillen is an idiot. I'll just never understand how guys with bad attitudes can't see how their ego is ruining their chances at success despite immense talent.

Ya, I kind of thought this might be the case when the dude won't even travel with the team. Way to show your solidarity there brother. What a POS. I'm sure this little stunt will drive up his market value next off-season.

Ya, I wouldn't mind getting more at bats for Panda or Ishi (especially with Ishi's upgrade in the field over Huff).

Bottom line, Guck Fuillen.

Ray Ratto speculates that Guillen's elbow is so bad that the Giants told him to forget about the post season. Guillen is back in the Dominican.

I wouldn't care if he had a broken leg. I think he should at least show some team love by showing up to at least a couple of games. I still think he's a dick (not saying you don't think so.....just sayin').
