I will admit I was 100% wrong with him. Not sure if it is him but they are missing something in the clubhouse and it’s not like they use their bench really anyway so would’ve been worth $8 mill or whatever
I would be wrong too. I did think they needed a veteran guy though because all reports said Haniger was a leader. Oh well.

So that Siri dude with 16 homers is the same guy we had in 2020 for 5 weeks. Hmmm.

At least they got 3. Better than they normally do with bases juiced and no outs.

Sometimes I think maybe I'm being too pessimistic. Like when I hear that the M's are 4-5-6 whatever games out of the wildcard. But there's so many teams that are all within 1-2 of each other up there.

But I promise I'm taking a break from the negativity. It is what it is.

Is there such a thing?

We follow the only team to never reach a world series. Most of us here are old enough to have followed every one of the those futile years.

Look, I do go into each season with hope that we will be entertained and maybe enough goes their way to limp into a WC spot. That's not a high bar and yet nearly every year I'm let down enough to not really caring and spending more energy on football by August 1st.

Last year wasn't a step forward for a team heading up with lots more heights to reach. It was one of those years where enough went their way. They had historic luck with pitching health.

The current front office/management have already reached their ceiling. That's not being pessimistic, that's being realistic based on the entire history of their careers.

I also come across pretty harsh and negative of things ( simply to a lifetime of failure and frustration with the team )

It would not affect me so much if it were not for them making the same rookie mistakes ( top brass ) year after year after year.
You want to become a really good golfer ? you have to invest in great golf gear and practice relentlessly
You want to be a succesful race car / team owner ? Spend a bunch of money on the best cars - best driver and best mechanics

You want to be a successful MLB baseball team owner ? ( success is measured by winning the world series ) Spend the money and gather all the best support to build and maintain a great franchise. When the time comes to tear down and rebuild ... you better get it RIGHT. Not fail every single time for 46 years.

Looks like the team was actually swinging for base hits instead of for the fence every time at bat last night. Huge difference in what I’ve seen so far. We’ll see if it sticks or not. Or if it was an anomaly.

Another great performance by Kirby. Great to see.

Meanwhile across the street you’ll find a team that has culture, history of winning (minus 90’s), and a reasonable expectation year in and year out of winning at some level. The Mariners literally don’t even have a fraction of what the Seahawks have as an organization, and they are right across the street! IMO, it all comes down to ownership. We can blast Jerry, Scott, and whoever else we want and be somewhat validated but in the end we go as ownership allows us to go. This is why until that dork Stanton sells the team our past will continue to be written as our current history while we fill their pockets just to see us celebrate a year (95) in which we didn’t even make the WS. Think about that, we literally celebrate failure rather than thrive for success in this organization. Pathetic!

Help is on its way...

I honestly think Jerry is fully handcuffed by that dork Stanton. Not saying JeDi made the greatest moves in the offseason cause we all know that isn’t the case, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t get the chance to right his Wong.

I get that, but only to a point. Yes he has a spending like most other teams, but his is still more than half the teams and those lower half are still better than us. He is also responsible for the crap that comes on the team. If you only have $6M on a player, nobody forced him to give it to Pollock. He could have given it to Santana for example who is outplaying Pollard by miles. He could have dealt Flexen in the offseason when he still had some value but didn't and now released him for nothing. He targeted Wong. I could go on. So yes you are right he has limits in spending, but all final player decisions are his and he just isn't very good at it. I will repeat what I said earlier, he had freaking Trout and couldn't win. The guy just isn't any good. He is mid management and is over his head here.

I have to assume that Dipoto and Hollander have been begging (in a professional way, of course) for owners to open the coffers.

Yes, I wish we could follow the model of KC and HOU, but Jerry isn't capable of it. He did his best. And we've got a pretty awesome draft set up coming up and I think i'm justifiably worried about the choices hel'll make.

I say give him a year with a bigger payroll. If that doesn't yield anything, THEN move onto a new GM and another full rebuild. The only other option is more of the same.

I just want a good team again one more time. Great as the Raleight moment was, I feel equally like that about stuff from the mid 90s especially when I was in the seats at least once a week driving from Port Angeles, parking and then walking onto the Bainbridge Island Ferry, and walking to the park straight off of it. Between those years and 01, so many incredible moments. I want more than 1 every 20 years!
