Here’s the skinny on the newest Washington Commander Emmanuel Forbes – solid player with so much to like, but the scale says 180 if he has a brick in each pocket.
And that’s a reach at the NFL level.

Don’t talk about “itty bitty” Darrell Green. He’s a Pro Football Hall of Famer. Sure, Pat Fischer played at 170 pounds but was four inches shorter than Forbes and that was two generations ago. Today’s NFL has muscular receivers every week and Forbes will get worn down over time.

Oh, the Commanders first-rounder will surely report at 180 pounds. Nobody is watching that scale and teams just claim whatever fits the narrative. Happens a million times. Figures don’t lie, but liars can figure.
Forbes was 166 pounds at the NFL Combine where plenty of eyes forced the truth. He supposedly played at 170 last season so why did Forbes lose weight in the offseason when the focus should have been on gaining weight?
“Honestly, [NFL teams] didn't really care too much about my weight because I can play ball,” Forbes said. “That's all that matters and it never affected my game, so it really didn't play a factor.”

The Commanders don’t see a problem with the weight because they’re blinded by his tape. Forbes is a ballhawk with six pick-6s last year. He intercepted 14 passes at Mississippi State. Forbes was durable over three seasons, tackles well and runs fast. Who doesn’t want a corner with those traits?
If Forbes was 186 pounds, it would be a solid pick. But, he’s not and that leaves some doubt. The NFL is a big-boy league and 17 games wear players down. That last month is played on grit and duct tape. Players are often down 5 to 10 pounds from the season’s start.
Surely, Washington will put Forbes on a special diet with supplements to bulk him up the best he can. But, Forbes is just naturally skinny. Nine siblings might have something to do with it if he was at the end of the table. Skinny in life is an asset, but on the NFL field it’s a liability.
The Commanders just can’t make a normal pick. Cornerback Christian Gonzales was taken with the next selection by the New England Patriots in a New York minute. (And they even reportedly traded down knowing that Rivera and Co. were enamored with Forbes and they would still get their guy.) Commanders fans would have loved that pick as much as they can unite on anything after three years of civil war over the team name and seemingly everything else with this franchise.
But, no, Washington has to show it’s smarter than everyone else. By the way, how’s that Jamin Davis pick working out? Fair at best after two underwhelming seasons. Davis was a reach and so is Forbes. Hopefully, the latter proves doubters wrong and feasts on passers.

I was expecting Gonzales but I'm fine with Forbes. He is skinny but he has length and that length shows up in his play. He is a playmaker for a defense that does not create turnovers and was more productive than Gonzo. I'm not crazy that Ron showed his cards but that probably only meant NE took Gonzo at 14 and Washington was not going to trade back and possibly miss on the corner they really wanted all along.

If you are too lite you can add weight, if you are too heavy you can lose it.

You cant teach instinct, and I think thats what they see in this kid. That and if he turns side ways he is invisible which adds to the six pick sixes he had in college. :)

You may be able to gain weight; however, you may lose other gifts. There is a reason he never beefed up playing in the best conference in football.

Detriot blew the first round IMO. I disagree with you on Wright. He was talked up alot during the draft process. A Bears fan came to our board and said the Bears loved him. I knew he would of went ahead of Jones surpised he went ahead of Skono

Gonzo did not perform against Georgia and that bothered us. He played in the weaker conference and didn't have the production that was even close to Forbes. They felt Forbes was the better fit for JDR scheme. They didnt want a William Jackson situation. Gonzo landed in a good place with BB. J. Willaims and Burks were rated higher than Dotson in last years draft but I m glad we got Dotson. Forbes makes plays and he is a ball hawk. Gonzo showed no evidence that he can do that.

Being talked up is different than deserving. Wright was in fact a reach according to every grade I have seen…that being said, it is not a horrible pick. Detroit is getting Millen grades and the man doesn’t work there any more.

Gonzo had 4 picks last season. How does a corner have production exactly? He has to be tested. Let’s see how Forbes does against the likes of AJ Brown.

Just because a guy is flying up boards doesn’t make them value or rated highly. Their play and combine gets them rated highly. Once we start talking individual boards, we get into fit and scheme…that doesn’t make them rated or worth a pick. It does allow you to understand.

Forbes won't be on Aj Brown. He will Cover D. Smith, Lamb, and Cooks. He is a zone Cb that fits the scheme, and they liked his production in the SEC. He has never been hurt and started early in his college career. Im not saying Gonzo is a bad player but now I can see why they went Forbes over him. If they didn't care about the weight, he is a top CB in this draft. When Gonzo played against top competion like Georgia he didn't produce. That matters.

Well DJ and Mschay are former scouts and mocks I have seen he was 9 to 20. Detroit threw some major wrenches in the first round.

So if he is a zone corner, how will he not be on AJ Brown?

If he is a mid first corner, how can we be selective in who he covers?

You seem to think we don’t understand why a pick is made simply because we disagree with it. Weight is a factor…he is light. If he had a vagina, he would be a woman. Former scouts who did not advance within the organization and had to go to broadcasting.
