Well I always said I would rather this team tank these 60 games and get a top 3 pick which would be great but its pretty sad that they are putting their best effort out there and still end up in last place. I would think until Kelenic and Logan Gilbert come up is when we should start seeing a curve up. I will say however seeing Sheffield struggle so damn much is a reflection of Dipoto having traded away our best pitcher in Paxton to acquire him.

Also did you see my boy Tim Lopez going 2-4 with a homer? I am telling you guys that we need him in the lineup everyday maybe even compete with Shed Long for 2nd base if he keeps this up.

Yea this one is looking bad. The reality is this is what happens when you sit on the fence, I think they waited a year too long to deal Paxton but it is what it is now. I had/have more hopes for Dunn so hopefully he shows something starting today.

Just watching Sheffield yesterday and he had zero command. I dont think I've seen a Mariners sinkerball pitcher live that up in the zone since Carlos Silva. Yuck sorry thats bad memories we dont need to relive. But regardless I have almost no faith Sheffield turns into anything more then a spot starter and likely a career in the pen.

Joe Kelly has bigger balls than our entire pitching staff.

If you're going to be bad, at least put a fastball in the ribs of proven cheaters.

Can only say this is a reflection of the manager. Maybe it means nothing and maybe there is more important things going on in the world but the reality is this a team that has kicked your teeth in since Servais/Dipoto got here. IDK if you arent gonna react now, it will probably never happen

-21 run differential (worst in MLB by 7 runs) and some really sloppy looking D equals last place, but thankfully they are only 2 games out.

Looking at who they will be playing in the West it seems pretty likely they will be the worst team in the Western Divisions, and there's no Baltimore, Detroit, KC to play to try and put lipstick on their record. So I see them being fully in the race for the top pick. Hopefully there just isnt some BS run in the last week to ruin a draft pick

They are 6 games in, little early to be calling out the busts just yet.

This is very true if he comes out next game and goes 6 innings giving up 1 run which is very possible then I am eating my words

His projection has always been 2021 at best and that is counting a 2020 minor league season. I am honestly not understanding the discussion of if he should've played this year.

Have to disagree with you on this. If he had struggled during the practice whatever, then I get it. But to not promote a guy who was doing what he is suppose to sets a bad example to players. Yes he has attitude, but he also has work ethic and you should never penalize that if the talent is there. We are talking 60 season with extended roster so you can protect him every step of the way. Instead you are giving him AB"s against pitchers who can't even pitch for this team which has no pitching and against defense that doesn't even play a LF'er because of numbers. Wouldn't a guy with a big ego be helped by hanging around some veterans though I admit we don't have many of them left. If the argument is the time clock, then okay it is what it is. But with a guy that is some high strung, what is he going to remember when he is hitting his prime and free agency?

If this was a regular season, I wouldn't even argue it but it is not it is perfect training ground to get youngsters their feet wet. I am glad the previous management didn't do it with that Griffey kid.

It is just a bs mentality and the exact opposite that the Mariners had during their “golden years”.

As stated, it is a prolonged spring training with the 60 games. If Kelenic got called up now and struggles then be it. It is not like he is going to progress or really get better taking BP and shag fly balls for months in Tacoma.

My exact thoughts. So easy to regulate him with this format.

I think we all knew why Kelenic had no chance of playing this year and this article spells it out.

Why:

The Mariners cited Kelenic’s lack of games and proper development as a main reason to keep him in Tacoma. Then there are the service-time ramifications, which would have allowed Kelenic to become a free agent after the 2025 season — instead, he can become a free agent after the 2027 season if he stays in the minors this year and the beginning of next year (for about three weeks or perhaps longer).

His reaction:

“I’m only going to comment on how I’m handling it,” he said. “I will say that every single day I’m going out and trying to compete and have fun with the guys. That’s not a cliché answer, but it may sound like one. It’s 100% what I’m trying to do. I understand the circumstances, but for me, I’m just going to go out there and compete very single pitch.”

How top Mariners prospect Jarred Kelenic is making the most of a year upended by the COVID shutdown

Gotta give him credit for that response. Really shows his maturity. He was able to subtly express he wasn't happy about it without exactly expressing as much.

Sheffield has struggled at every level he has played at since being traded to us. I did my best to try to be optimistic about him being the centerpiece of the Paxton trade, but at this point it's hard to really have much hope.

Def agree although my opinion on Sheff dates back to last year and the fact that he was having issue in Tacoma even.

I have more faith in Dunn so hoping he shows a little something tonight. But yeah if theres anything that matters to me its these young arms. I'd like to see something to feel good about in the rotation going forward

Getting a little more difficult to keep the excitement up. Hope things turn around for the M's pretty soon. I know it's early but a W would be nice. :noidea:
