its hot this year and people are bitching about the need to go to 2 out of 3 for majors.....

Lmao man the fuck up. They play best of 5 4x in the season. Also NYC is rarely this hot so late in August. This weather was rare. I watched a full US Open before where it didn't touch 90

I hope whoever wins the other women semis makes Serena run in the final like Justin Henin (or Hingis) could. She would employ the drop shot effectively and mix it up. Power and tactics should be blended in the right proportions but all Serena’s opponents can do is mindless ball bashing and they are unable to exploit her weakness which is that she is fat and would run out of steam with longer rallies.

I would consider moving it to the Fall but I am sure players don't want to stretch the season out that far.

This week has been unbelievably hot. I don't envy anyone on a court in the middle the day.

I have played twice this week and both times sweated more than I have all summer

New York falls can get pretty cool. Making a dramatic decision because 1 rare heat in NYC in late August is dumb. They play in hotter temperature every January in Melbourne.

Rooting for Osaka in the Finals. If Keys had made it, I would have rooted for Serena.

I think Serena usually has more trouble with great movers and players that can keep balls in play. See Kerber, Clijsters, da Vinci, Ivanovic, Henin.

Sure, some power players have beaten her too (Pliskova, Stosur, Muguruza). But I think a better strategy is to get balls in play and make her run, and let her commit errors.

I'm not sure if Osaka can do this well enough. We will see.

I liked the Keys vs. Osaka match. It was a fun matchup.

Pussies. I had to play indoors in a steel frame building with no AC this week. If you wonder how it could get any worse for them, you now know the answer.

2016 the weather was very similar. One day at 90 to start the tournament then basically a week and half of cool weather before warming again at the end of tournament.

At the end of day, this what makes the 2 hard court GS different than those the 2 GS played in Europe. You have to deal with warmer weather. Deal with it. You basically play most of the season in cooler temperature in Europe

On to today's tennis, going to be very interesting.

I think both goes at least 4 sets. Wouldn't be surprised if both matches go over the 4 hour mark

I don't like the notion that Osaka has "nothing to lose". She's playing for a title.

We don't know how many chances she'll get. A lot of players only make 1 or 2 GS Finals in their career.

She hasn't established herself long enough to know whether she'll be a regular contender.

Jankovic, Dementieva, Zvonareva all only made 1 or 2 Finals early in their career. Most never even saw a SF again. Or would stop making SFs about a year afterward.

The way I see it is that Serena has nothing to lose. Her career is great. She'll also get more chances at Finals, because of how good she is.

For Osaka, until she establishes herself as a regular contender, this could be her chance.

I do agree that Serena has more pressure though, because she's the favorite.

So, I think both that Serena has more pressure, and also has nothing to lose. While Osaka, as of her career right now, this is her big shot.

If she makes a few more SFs over the next 2 years, then she'll have proven that she's consistent, and one lost opportunity isn't the end of the world. Then it would appear she'll get more chances.
