Tragedy Girls (2017)

This was a fairly enjoyable slasher comedy. I was expecting more in regards to the violence so I was a little disappointed but it still gave me some decent laughs. Pretty funny coincidence that the 2 main girls were both from superhero films previously. The young Storm from X-men:Apocalypse & the young chick from Deadpool. Probably more to that (producer maybe?). The film had a strange premise about using social media exposure to fuel their ambitions, but maybe that was their way of making this more of a new-age teen flick. I think they tried a little too hard to make it fun in that regard, but it didn't translate into comedy for me. The concepts of Scream meets Mean Girls was good enough comedy to begin with. It was a predictable film, but they kept it fairly simple for a reason. The 2 main actresses had good chemistry and produced some good laughs. Without that chemistry I don't feel like this film would have made as good as an impression though. So kudos to them. The ending was great even if you saw it comin. Burn 'em all!

Entertaining slasher comedy... 6.5/10

Truth or Dare - Don't know if anyone had the pleasure of watching this one yet. Hopefully you didn't. I know with a teen horror movie the potential for me to get annoyed is high, this movie didn't let me down. Just dumb reaction after dumb reaction and it kept getting dumber. They could probably rework the Tag movie that's out now and make a more compelling horror story.

Yea I unfortunately gave that a watch a few weekends ago. Lots of stupidity. Pretty sure I lost interest & fell asleep before the climax.

There was another movie titled Truth Or Dare made some time ago that was a lot better than this new one.

The 2012 one from the UK also known as Truth or Die? I did catch that one a couple years ago. Much better, granted that's not saying much.

Noticed I forgot to reply to this... But No I was talkin about this one:

Truth or Dare (TV Movie 2017) - IMDb

Acting might have been about the same, but the material was much better. Ending was gnarly but awesome.

Opening scene is a blatant ripoff of Jaws.

Truth Or Dare (2018)

Long story short, I didn't care for this movie at all. Aside from some creepy facial cgi, this movie didn't have much allure at all. Almost all of it came across as a lame attempt at a campy horror movie that ripped off the killing theme of Final Destination movies. Even the stereotypical characters sucked. The alpha male was weak, the sleezy gal was unattractive, the jerk was too geekish, etc. None of the characters were likable at all. Just a bunch of D-bags that were constantly making bad decisions which made it even less stimulating to watch. The movie struggled to sustain any level of suspense due in large part to a story that had too many subplots that dragged the horror theme out. There is such a thing as too much character development lol. But even so they could have at least provided a better character arc. All that time spent on a few characters still resulted in a flat background. Not to mention a huge negative aspect of this film was that a lot of the scenes were shot in dark ambient lighting that made it difficult to see much of anything. I think the main story had intrigue, but all the convoluted plotlines put me to sleep. Literally... I fell asleep before the climax. Didn't even care to finish it on another day.

Tried too hard... 4/10

Truth Or Dare (2013)

Essentially just like Would You Rather & the Saw movies, but more of a revenge story. This film comes to us as the directorial debut of Jessica Cameron. First off its worth mentioning that this movie has won numerous awards (upwards in the teens) at multiple indie horror film festivals. An impressive feat for someone new to the game on a limited budget. This movie is a bit of a difficult sell though. It's not mainstream, it doesn't have the high profile actors or fancy production values, but it delivers all the same. Through a mixture of a simple, yet captivating plot and intense shock-value gore, the end result is solid gut-wrenching entertainment. If you weren't a fan of the movies mentioned previously then don't bother as this movie is just as violent & gory. The progression is fast-paced so don't expect a whole lot of character development. Thankfully in most teenaged horror flicks you don't really care one way or the other. It works for this movie because it doesn't want to distract from the gruesome nature of it. The result is a fairly cut & dry revenge story with loads of gore, but still somehow the story makes you care for the victims when we have no business doing so. The acting was great & very believable, which created a very chilling suspense. Ryan Kiser plays an excellent antagonist in this movie. The cinematography & gore fx were excellent. If you made it this far in my review then I definitely recommend you give this movie a try. This is a very cool film, and has things that every horror fan would love.

Twisted & brutal revenge horror... 7.5/10
Out of curiosity I looked up Truth or Die in regards to my discussion with @Taddy Mason ... Found I actually did a review on it. It appears that it too was once called Truth or Dare.

How I'd rate those TorD movies:

1. Truth or Die (2013)
2. Truth or Dare (TV Movie - 2017)

.....huge gap here

5. Truth or Dare (2018)

I'd even put Would You Rather (2012) up there in the top 3. Similar concepts.

Just watched See No Evil 2. It was recommended online as a big improvement over the original See No Evil, which was a fairly crappy entry into the slasher genre. In some ways they were right.

This one starts off immediately after the first. Jacob Goodnight, played by the giant wrestler known as Kane (this was a WWE production) is seemingly dead after the first movie. They are hauling him to the morgue where a bunch of pretty folk are holding a surprise birthday party for their friend who works there. After a couple sneaks off to do the nasty next to his body, he wakes up and starts gutting the MTV crowd in various ways.

Pretty straightforward Halloween 2 tribute/rip off in that it:
*Starts immediately after the events of the first movie.
*Chases the people around a hospital/morgue for the entire movie.
*Unstoppable killer rises from supposably being dead and goes all hack-slay on everyone in his path.

The first movie had the stupid premise of a bunch of beautiful convicts go to an old hotel to clean it up as community service. They all have designer clothes and perfect make up. More annoying is that they are basically anonymous in that they are all faceless, disposable, dislikable stereotypes. Part 2 does improve on this as the characters are distinguishable from each other and are better developed, but for the most part they are still dislikable.

It moves fast. The gore is pretty decent. For some reason this mortuary basement is gigantic, which makes little sense but it gives everyone a place to run around in the dark and try to hide.

Is it better than the first? Yes, but doesn't make it a great movie. It does have Katharine Isabelle from the Ginger Snaps series/American Mary/Freddy vs Jason/Carrie in a supporting role as the nympho friend which is a plus in my book (unfortunately she still doesn't whip out her twin talents for out viewing pleasure).

Good production values, some good gore, Kane is a scary monster being a muscular 7'0 dude. Cinematography, soundtrack is ok. Acting is generally passable.

Suffers from generic story. Nothing we haven't seen 100 times before. Also produced for mass consumption so it has little personality.

All in all, I'll go 5.5 out of 10. I wouldn't seek it out but I wouldn't actively avoid it if nothing else is appealing.

Back in the early stages of this thread I gave it a very similar rating (go figure :suds:) :
