Ball in a similar state in the woods, but much worse...playing partner didn't see it...I punch out the 3rd, 4th on and 2 putted...he writes down 5...nope...6, whiffed in the bushes back there...lol.

I agree 100%.

To keep play moving, putts inside the leather on the putter are conceded, no "that's good" needed. We cap you at dbl par. Aside from that, we play it down...divots, play it as it lies. If it looks like you're heading OB, hit a provisional...if you're heading towards red stakes...particular attention is paid to where your ball is crossing the hazard margin.

When we (myself and two regulars) played the Frog...we played in our host's points/skin's game...they do "two off the 1st", "roll it" in the fairway, score is capped at your handicap ESC. He's pretty player, but on one hole he hit one sideways off the tee, 3rd in play, 4th in the water, blah, blah...he gets on the green and picks up..."7" he says...he was lying 8 on the green we thought....anyway, I can see now how these guys are posting so many sub 80 rounds and they didn't seem to swing it much better than us.

Well...I told him after the round, looking forward to having you up on our side of town, but some of the rules are different from how you guys play...the money game is simple...$5 on the front, $5 on the back, $5 overall, low score wins, 1 tie, all tie on any side.

No two off the 1st, no preferred lies, dbl par pickup, you can adjust for ESC to post after the round.

No two off the 1st, no preferred lies

You'll kill that guy if he doesn't get those crutches. Improving your lie is one of the most advantageous cheats there is...and it all extends to gimmies. Caveat on my post above - of course when it's hanging on the edge 6 inches away that's conceded by someone in the group. When it's 12 inches the same, but when we get out to 20+ inches with a side hill curl, we putt those out. It's unspoken among us but come on, isn't it a very rare occurrence that there's much confusion about whether a bloke is certain to hole out?

He beat me in Myrtle Bch without those crutches but that's another story...far more me than him. Our home course gets a lot of play. On the 1st tee on a Sat. morning with a small audience of 2 or 3 4somes waiting, there is a huge mental comfort knowing your 1st tee ball is basically a practice shot. I've never understood the preferred lie stuff. If you don't like your lie, call an unplayable.

He's got a good game, but I look forward to the next round with him on our terms.

Gimmes...agreed...some inside the leather putts should not be conceded. Huge difference in a 2' uphill straight in, and 18" downhiller with a half cup of break and we know that.

To your last sentence...we played the last 2 years with no auto concession and it kinda caused some issues...last year alone, we've lost at least 2 guys that seemed like a good fits game wise to be our regular 4th because we're "too stringent"...they never tell us directly, but we hear it thru the grapevine. 'Man, I hear you guys have people grinding over a 18" putts' ...selective criticism imo, but it may have been true in the past.

I'm fine playing as a 3some, but ideally we'd like 4 and a simple inside the leather seems to be the status quo there.

Scored like shit again on Tuesday although two of those bogeys came off of perfectly struck irons that flew the green. I gotta do something about my short putting. I'm standing over 5-6 footers with no certain stroke so last night I was at Dick's and on their floor green I couldn't miss with the white hot face-balanced Odyssey...I couldn't leave the store without it as I've been meaning to try out a balanced putter. So we'll see if I tossed away a buck thirty or if I'll be back here with more heroic stories to tell!

Aerating the greens at the home course this week...I played 9 after work just to work on ball striking on the course...uneven lies and such...greens rolled better than I expected.

But...me and crew are off to Providence this Saturday. We played there about 3 weeks ago...nice track, a little easier than the home course.

Since I'm out of town the next week and no golf the week after, I'm double dipping this weekend...playing Sunday at Bears Best. One of the nicer public access courses in town. As the name might suggest, it's a Nicklaus layout...one of two built with 18 replica holes of Jack Nicklaus courses where topography fits...the other more ritzy one is in Vegas. They used to have mandatory forecaddies, but I think that's over now....greens are hard as heck, but the course itself is fun to play.

79 yesterday that would have been an 82 or 83 with my old putter. Holy smokes, I was mopping up 3-4 footers like they were gimmies.

Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked. Was really hitting the driver well yesterday too so my game is getting there. I'm playing a buddy's new course I've never seen on Sunday morning so I hope I'm trending up.

Shot a 48 yesterday, irons and driver weren't doing me any favors...or was it the heavy arm workout an hour before the round? Got to the course at 4:30, had to be off at 5:45. Didn't really kick it into high gear until hole five, then it was pretty much a power walk the rest of the way. Finished three minutes late, the wifey kind of dawdled around on the last hole...or three.

Not easy to hit a shot when you're short of breath, but it was fun none the less.

Saturday...7:54 at Providence Golf CLub...misty, overcast, thick, muggy air...rain on and off, but never enough to stop play...just a nuisance. Tried to get away from the home course due to punched greens...lo and behold...Providence had punched and sanded greens.

44-43...87 nothing terrible, well, one terrible tee ball resulting in a dbl, but nothing real good either. Fighting a left ball all day...hips just would cooperate.

Sunday...12:00 Bears Best ATL...beautiful day, mostly overcast, sun playing peek a boo most of the day, humid but not brutally hot. Outstanding conditions, back on bent grass greens for a change.

41-38...79...playing with an old friend and another buddy. Coming off a rib injury and easing his way back into golf so we played about a month ago and I gave him 4 strokes a side and handled him pretty well. He's better than that for sure but 6 mos off and his 1st round back. On this day he asked for 1 a side...not problem.

We both par #1, #2, I pull a 3w left into some Carnoustie type stuff...could get my 2nd out, went on to make a +3 7 and he made another 4 (par)...no panic, but he's striking the ball much better so I knew I had to buckle down...#3 he flares one right off the tee (his big miss is a high right push fade), this was a DL right so we thought he might be in play...no, OB, carded an 8...I make par 4 and more or less steady golf until #8...from the FW I badly chucked an 8i approach into the hdz...made double, he made par...at least made #9 interesting, long par 5...I made par to his bogey...41 for me, 45 for him.

Back 9...from the FW again, another pulled chunky PW into the bunker, blasted out nicely but missed the putt for bogey. Nice scrambling par 3, on #11, GIR par on #12...just missed a birdie. Sloppy dbl on #13 from the FW, all putting...14-18...birdie, and all pars to close with +2 for the side 38.

Finally a sub 80 round!

played 9 on Friday, first time in a while and a course I only get on a couple times a year. Shot a 41, which I guess I am happy with. The course felt short though. I should have been under 40

I'm happy with any low scores.

My cousin out in Colo played course that I've played with him several times and he broke 90 last week (not the norm for him when I play with him) and he gave me the caveat...'but we played the white tees'.

I'm like...well what's wrong with that? 'it was shorter'....I said, to be honest, you probably should play the white tees more often then because you rarely ever break 90 from the blue tees. FWIW...I go by the slope rating more so the length. Yesterday the blue tee was only 6138, but the slope was 137.

I always play from the whites. A mans got to know his limitations.

The head pro at our home course challenged some players to break 80 from the forward tees. One shot at it...you do it he gave them 4 weeks no green fee/no cart fee...in other words free golf for a month.

If you didn't, you agree to contribute $100 to the Dacula HS golf team. The players he challenged were mostly mid/hi 80 players from the blue tees. I had already taken this challenge and won, so I wasn't asked, plus I had just bought a 4some in the fundraiser for the team.

Idk the exact number of players, but I think it was 5 or 6 4somes at least...about 30% won.

Headed to the course with the intention of hitting the driving range. But it's a beautiful day and the back nine had an opening.

Tried to focus on taking a smooth swing and not try to over power the ball. Also focused on staying relaxed waiting for all the idiots on the course to speed up play.

I managed to do both. Swinging easier allowed me to finish tall and make better contact.

Had my best nine on the back ever, shot a 38, should have given myself a gimme that was within 8 inches, instead I lipped out. Missed a couple of other putts that i usually make, but for now I'll forget about those and be happy with the 38.

Felt different playing earlier in the day, wasn't tired from yard work and from going to the gym..maybe that's the secret.

So playing my buddy's course turned into a lesson on how spoiled I am! Fucking 5 hours in the sweltering heat...then rain....then heat....rain....waited literally on every shot the entire 18. They didn't have water enough and when I finally got to a cooler on #15, it was empty. Fuck, anyway shot an 87 with a snowman on that 15th. Beautiful and fun course so I def want to go back. We at least should have taken carts and not walked the 18.

That's one of those days when you probably would like to have gotten the other 9 in! Two great keys you had going there.

That was us Sat...except is wasn't brutally hot for a change...sub 90 walking in those conditions with no water on the course...had to be frustrating waiting on every shot, but not terrible.

Congrats,

I would have loved to play another nine, if there was ever a time for me to break 80, it was yesterday. The back plays harder then the front, so it was doable.

Problem was I had my wife's clubs in the car and she had league night, so I had to get her clubs back in time. If the course was moving quicker, I would have given it a shot.
