Look at this. It's two of the best players in the NHL and they both wear Leaf jerseys.

Pffft

There are too many people inside the city limits who think this would actually be a good idea, highlighted by the fact that the state broadcaster spent 15 minutes discussing it.

For starters, the costs associated with lobbing the 416 off from the rest of the province would be in the billions – setting up ministries for health, education, transportation, the environment etc. would produce an enormous start-up cost.

Secondly, the business base would flee like fucking wildfire. Taking liberal Toronto out of Ontario would leave Ontario as a province about as blue as Alberta, and with it would come massive tax cuts. Ontario no longer having to fund Toronto’s infrastructure issues, their housing crisis or subsidizing their way-too-low property taxes would leave them plenty of room to lower taxes and drain the city of its business base. Mississauga, Hamilton, Vaughan and the Tri Cities would become massive business centres overnight.

Local retail would hurt even more. Ontario could lower the PST to attract shoppers from the 416 to the malls and main streets of the 905.

Toronto would also not have a major int’l airport within city limits unless it expanded the Island Airport, something the lefties have been trying to shut down for decades so I’m guessing that’s a non-starter.

It goes on. Keesmaat was a shitty city planner who helped to create the chaotic nightmare that Toronto is at the moment and her first act as a mayoral candidate was to join the massive case of the vapors all the lefties suddenly (and comically) came down with when Ford announced he was going to cut Toronto’s useless council by 20. It’s just another case that shows the stupidity can flow freely on both sides of the aisle.

Why stop there... Be their own country
Then who would be Canada's Team? Edmonton? Is that what you want?

While we wait out the dog days of summer, have a question for the assembled.

Can the Leafs buy out Marleau after this year? He will have one year left. And if they can, is the cap hit equal to the year's salary or is it a lesser amount?

Of course this is a redundant question because Patrick and the rest of the League-best offense will be lighting it up like the Gretzky Oilers and Paddy will be viewed as a bargain at $6.25M.

If need be, Robidas Island.
