Lars Ulrich - Metallica
Not trying to be that guy, but Lars was not considered a very good drummer for many years. This comes from peers and band mates, as well as from himself. As crazy as this will sound, the drummer of Metallica (considered the best metal band at the time) would work with a drum teacher during breaks from touring because he knew he was below par. Almost 30 years later he is probably pretty good at this stage.

Basically true but you are being too kind. If anything Lars had gotten consistently worse as the years have progressed. He was a passable thrash metal drummer in the early years but he has had some truly bad live performances during the last 15 or so years. Not every night or anything that bad but videos keep popping up now and again of him losing rhythm or just messing up completely now and again.

Lars is very overrated

I would go further and say he’s not that good. He does his thing and there’s nothing wrong with it, but if you go back and look at the Cliff Burton days, old footage of him jamming, Lars just can’t hang.

I am probably being generous. I haven't listened to any new Metallica in over a decade and I have never seen them in concert. It's the devils music ya know

True. Cliff and James were the bread and butter of Metallica in their heyday

Charlie Watts-Rolling Stones

Guy was an experienced jazz drummer drafted by a fledgling rock and roll band that had no clue at that point. I think they figured it out
