I have sympathy for anyone that shoots a 130.

It was hard to watch as you could imagine...nearly every shot, he was frozen over the ball seemingly for a 2-3 mins then he'd swing...I think he wiffed twice, and hit half a dz dribblers about 30 yds...It was not pretty, I tried not to look when he was on the tee.

We all started somewhere in the game, but such a newbie, I know I never would've brought my game to a tourney like that.

The 81 was a fairly smooth 1st day....day two was with the 130 kid...shot 87...final day...89....I lost it on the back 9 shot 40-49...+5 the last 3 holes...just plain ran out of patience...the guy that won handled the slow pace much better than I did.
That happens to me as well. I shot 36-40 on Saturday with slow play killing us on the last 6 holes. I went bogey, bogey, bogey on 16, 17 and 18 to end the round. Too much waiting.

Why even play if you shoot that type of score?

I think I could do it with a putter.

I don't think he expected to shoot quite that high, but I too would be a little iffy about putting my game on display in that kind of setting if I'm not breaking a 100 consistently.

I fully admit I am not a good (can't play enough) and I should high 90s (when I actually keep score) but yeah slow play does screw me a little more than fast play... I mean on faster play I very rarely think about anything... Walk up to the ball maybe take 1 or 2 practice swings and hit it... Slower play I'm usually standing over the ball overthinking my shot and then when I can actually hit I duff it... Usually when someone else is walking up the fairway next to me.... God that makes me feel like an idiot... It shouldn't because I'm not good but still sucks

One of the best things for focus on a golf course is to eliminate the practice swing. It just gets you out of your aiming point and your ball positioning; unless you are going back behind your ball again after the practice swing(s) and aligning your club head with your aiming point, then re-aligning your body before you take your stance again.
It also makes each swing count.

Usually I do just that (realign after) but that is right, I have noticed gripping it and ripping it usually is the better option

In that case I think practice swings are OK. Don't use them myself except when I have less than a full swing like pitching or chipping..

I'm not that great either...low 80s to hi 80s is probably 90% of my scores. My biggest issue with slow play is guys not being ready to play when they get to their ball. I typically will go to my ball (w/ clubs in habd) and wait for the away players to hit. Once they hit, I hit so there is no waiting when they scoop me up, we keep moving towards the green.

If I'm the away player...I normally will have the cart partner take the cart to his ball after dropping me off...1 practice swing, maybe 2 if the lie is not something I hit off much...1 waggle and hit and I'll walk over to you. If you're spraying it...after the 1st one or two...don't spend 5 mins looking for every errant shot...after the 2nd one, if you don't have a good line on it...play some cheap balls and drop where you think it went out and keep moving.

I say they just let them start hitting into the groups ahead of them if they're playing too slow.

My problem with that is when I'm behind guys agonizing over basic 5 foot putts like their tour card is on the line by the time I'm over the ball I'm super-frustrated because I've gone through my routine 20 times. That's what drives me crazy, especially when it's a guy lining up the put with the line on the ball when everybody knows he's not going to make the short, straight one.
