Some thoughts there may be multiple restructures down the line as well as there was with Tyron Smith.

Unfortunately, I haven't built my OL spreadsheet yet so I can't give any useful comparisons for such a contract.

Average starting NFL Guard seems to be getting $7 mill a year at the moment. $14 mil for one of the best? Eh....

Its not the worst contract ever but thats definitely not one you want to make, imo.

They are a shit ton under the cap but 84 million for a Guard? He is the best in the business though.

Wow its going to be touuuuuuugh to extend DeCastro now. He's UC through 2021 so there's plenty of time. He'll be getting close to $10mil ($8.75m base + $1.7m bonus) per year in the last 2 seasons of his contract so he shouldn't get disgruntled. And I think he's still receiving the pro-rated signing bonuses around $3mil per year on top of all that.

The best in the business at a foundation position? Lock that guy up. Considering how the team is built and what they need in order to be successful extending him was an absolute must.

Most teams worry about the glory positions. Dallas worries about the guys in the trenches that matter and that's why we win championships...errrr...let's change that to hopefully that's why we WILL win Championship(s)...:hope:

This is what I don't like about the cap.

You draft well and they really pan out, eventually it bites you.

Guy is worth it for sure but so is Smith, Fredrick, etc. And Elliott and Prescott due in the future too.

I wouldn't be opposed to some two tier thing where those you draft who you wish to keep shouldn't punish the fucking cap as much as a high priced free agent.

It usually is cheaper to extend your own then try to get them on the FA market. This deal would have been even larger had he hit FA next season, assuming he keeps doing what he has done so far.

All I can say is thank JEBUS for Will McClay and Stephen Jones, or that would have been JFF with that pick.

Oline is king. Can't do shit without a good one. Lions fans know this better than anyone.

Good signing.
