The Ringer's Rewatchable podcast reviews movies we've all seen a million times. And in that they talk about the stars of the movie and whether the film was their "Apex Mountain" or basically their best performance. So I figured we could talk about. I'll offer 5 stars and we can talk about what their greatest film was. Should spark some good debate. We can start with the dudes but an actress one would be fun as well.

1. Tom Cruise
2. George Clooney
3. Matt Damon
4. Bruce Willis
5. Gene Hackman

1. Tom Cruise
2. George Clooney
3. Matt Damon
4. Bruce Willis
5. Gene Hackman

Cruise - The Minority Report
Clooney - O Brother Where Art Thou (only movie I've liked him in)
Damon - The Departed
Willis - The Sixth Sense
Hackman - The French Connection

I have to warn in advance that I will rank actresses 99% on how much skin is shown and how good it looks...

I try to emulate Gene's performance while chasing the train with the Frenchy on it every weekday morning, particularly the exasperated banging on the wheel and screaming...I don't swerve around moms with strollers, though.

All good choices. However I have different choices.

Cruise - A Few Good Men. Perfect role to highlight his cockiness. Hon Mention - The Firm
Clooney - Out of Sight. The quintessential Clooney and Soderberg's first real great film. Hon mention - Michael Clayton
Damon - Good Will Hunting. The movie that vaulted him to the top still was his best performance. Hon Mention - The Martian
Willis - Die hard. One of the greatest action movies ever made. Hon men - Sixth Sense
Hackman - Hoosiers. So many great choices but he was tremendous in this role. Hon mention. Unforgiven

I chose The Minority Report for Cruise largely on the strength of the moment when he doesn't shoot Crow...incredible bit of acting there. Find him to be more attitude than acting in many of his roles.
Felt Damon was good in GWH, but he was just outclassed by Robin Williams' incredible performance. In The Departed, he fit in well with masters like Nicholson and Sheen.

I was going to say Vanilla Sky for Cruise....but the best part of that movie is when Cameron Diaz hollers at him;

"I SWALLOWED YOUR CUM!!"

Minority Report is a really good choice.

The Departed I'm little more ambivalent about because I think that his role is a bit too small to be considered his greatest.

Cruise - Days of Thunder. He and Duvall played so well off each other. Hon Mention: Jerry Maguire.

Clooney - I really don't know. Not a fan of most of his movies.

Damon - Good Will Hunting. By a mile, the best he's ever done.

Willis - Die hard. It just about has to be. Hon Mention: The Last Boy Scout

Hackman - Unforgiven. He was surprisingly great as an old west bad guy. Hon. Mention: Mississippi Burning.

I see what you're saying about The Departed, but you did give Gene an HonMen for a fairly small role as Little Bill...guess I would say The Departed is a damned long movie and Matt got plenty of screen time. IDK, I guess I bought into Damon being a corrupt cop 100% and the genius janitor thing was a bit of a stretch, maybe more of script problem than the acting itself, but I enjoyed both of them a lot.

Yeah. Little Bill wasn't a major role in Unforgiven but he was probably had the 3rd most screen time in that film.

I guess for me, The Departed was always more about Leo and Jack with a great supporting cast whereas Unforgiven was Clinton versus Gene.

Tom Cruise - Eyes Wide Shut. Obviously. He chased acclaim so much that he got put into a film that broke up his marriage.

George Clooney - Up in the Air. A movie about a forever bachelor getting sucker punched by life? Not my favorite movie of his but the first one I think of.

Matt Damon - Good Will Hunting. I thought about picking the Departed to be funny.

Bruce Willis - The Whole Nine Y....Die Hard. Has to be Die Hard.

Gene Hackman - The Quick and The Dead. Although its likely a movie that I haven't seen from before I was born.

One good Clooney role that no one has mentioned is his role in The Descendants. He plays an outmatched dad dealing with an out of control family in Hawaii.

Oceans 11 is also a solid movie and O'Brother is one of my favorites. He has a bit part in Hail, Caesar thats funny. He had a good career, imo.
