Just listened to this podcast and think it did a great job of explaining what I've been arguing about on here for 2 years about how we don't need to take a RB high.

It's only 15 minutes so it's an easy listen.

I'd take saquon at 13 but that's about it and a trade up for him is foolish.

Also a good reminder for those who demand we focus on running the ball and that that's the key to success. Not how the nfl works anymore.

Running is still important. Argue with Jacksonville, the Rams, Pittsburgh, Dallas, the Saints and Kansas City. You are correct that the passing game is the focus of offenses these days but there are many reasons being able to run the ball is valuable and important.

I agree we do not need a RB at 13. Shanahan always found them late. Well most often I believe Portis was a 2nd rounder.

Nobody would say it doesnt have any value or purpose. But it is minimal compared to passing. Most of those teams get much more value from other facets of their team than their running games.

All I know is it sure would be nice being able to pick up a 4&1, 3&1 by running the ball. Something they couldn’t seem to do last season

Played and coached the game for years. You won't change my mind and you are right to an extent but not completely. A good run game is a good thing to have. Have a great passing game and no defense means nothing. You need the whole enchilada.

I think I'm right completely :D

Of course you need a defense though, no argument there.

Are we undervaluing RBs? When was the last time a top flight RB propelled his team to a SB victory, let alone getting to the SB?
Didn't Leonard Fornette...no wait a minute...never mind... :suds:

If Jesus Christ himself was selected at 13 there would still be 77 pages of threads about what a shitty pick it was.The draft can't get here soon enough.

Amen to that. Also - Allen was a great pick last season. God forbid if someone here says it was not since he was injured. You can't always account for injuries in drafting players & this guy very likely still has a great future. No way in hell anyone else should have been selected at that spot, but I am guessing someone here doesn't like that pick.

Some folks here just want to complain about absolutely everything.

There are only 7 RBs who have been named Super Bowl MVP. Having said that Denver won when two things happened, they got a running game and a defense.

A successful run game allows you to manage the clock, especially late in a game when you have the lead. It improves play action passes. That can't be under estimated as any QB is better when LBers hesitate before dropping into pass coverage.

We should all know that one reason Grifin's first year was so successful was that defenses were worried about both him and Alf. All of those things combined made the offense work better as a whole.

BTW Kevin - as you, I & several other folks here already know - love how some folks here act like being a Skins fan is the toughest thing in the world. Trying being a fucking Caps fan for forever & going through this nonsense year in - year out. It is just like being Charley Brown & having the football pulled away from you every season. Way more frustrating than being a Skins fan (I keep telling myself I won't go through this again but inevitably do every year).

Agree but it doesn't always involve elite RBs who were selected high (your Redskins example kind of notes that). Several top notch teams have successful RBs who were selected high (Rams, Cowboys, Jags, Steelers, etc), but the teams that have actually won recent SBs generally have decent running games but quite often without all pro type RBs (Pats, Eagles, Broncos, Giants, etc - Seahawks being notable exception).

Not stating that getting a good RB should not be a priority but elite, quality lineman are likely more valuable & certainly last longer & therefore RB can often be addressed later in the draft (like your Morris example above).
