People are quick to assume Denver is going to draft a QB but I don't see it happening. Not only did they sign Keenum, but they still have Lynch, Simien, and also Chad Kelly on the roster. IMO Kelly might be the most talented of the entire group, so grabbing yet another QB when there are other bigger needs doesn't make sense.

In the NFL there is one position you absolutely have to get right and that is QB. If they use a high pick on a QB I wouldn't be mad at all because if you figure out that position it can cover up a lot of other problems on the team. A LG like Nelson while great doesn't exactly help cover up other issues. Barkley is a great but name me the last great RB to help lead his team to the Super Bowl with terrible QB play around him and an average defense. Fitzpatrick and Ward are great in the secondary but again those positions just don't have the impact of a great QB. So if the right guy falls to them at 5 then get your guy and have a strong QB room. You can trade Kelly for draft capital or Keenum next year possibly. Teams will overpay for even average talent at the QB position.

Actually, if they trade down with anyone lower than Denver, Nelson could definitely be gone. Denver is in desperate need of blocking help up front, and if they're not in love with whichever QB is left after 1-4, they could easily go Nelson.

Over Barkley, Chubb, Minkah? Nelson is a bear, but the Broncos line struggled more with pass protection than the running game. Nelson's specialty is power blocking, whereas the Broncos play a zone blocking scheme, so he's not necessarily a direct fit, scheme-wise. It would be tough to pass on those three (and whichever QBs, or even trade down offers) to take a guard in the top 5. Just doesn't happen very often. Scherff was drafted #5 by the Redskins, but as an OT that was later moved inside.

I don’t see the Browns trading away their 4th pick. I don’t any reason when they can get a need at 4. They need help with the secondary so Fitz/Ward seems like the play, Chubb wouldn’t be a bad option. I doubt they get Barkley but if he is there then why not. I hope they don’t trade down

I don't know about them going secondary at #4. They just signed Gaines, who was good for the Rams and Bills when healthy (there's the rub), and already have Boddy-Calhoon and Taylor in the mix, along with Peppers and Randall at safety. Who do you think they are looking to upgrade (didn't watch the Browns much last year)? They are more of a man-to-man defensive scheme, so a CB/S like Minkah doesn't seem like an ideal fit. Seems too early for Ward or Jackson.

They REALLY need OTs, but that's too early for one in this draft.

I guess when you've been picking early for a while, the names on the roster may be more impressive than their play, and I admit to not seeing them much.

Thats what I'm seeing with the Browns. Any pick that isnt an OT almost seems nuts but OT at 4 also seems crazy. Maybe they could kick out Joel Bitonio to LT and draft Nelson but that seems improbable to change his position this late in the game.

My guess is they might trade down for Ward. EJ Gaines is only on a 1 year deal for some reason.

A question. How important is it to play for a good or great team in determining draft status. Do you need other 1st and 2nd rounders on your team to be in the first round, especially on defense.
An example, would Fitzpatrick from Alabama be a top 10 pick if he played for Illinois, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Kansas? Same player, same skills, except offenses could stay away from him because of the weakness of the rest of the team and he would not have the stats.

I think the difference with a player like Fitzpatrick is that if he was on Illinois or Syracuse then he would be asked to play on the outside and we'd have a ton of film on him as an outside cornerback and not a nickleback/slot corner. So that would be a huge difference. It would either elevate his draft stock or lower it depending on how we played the more valued position.

The Free Safety play is what elevates Fitzpatrick currently. I can't imagine anyone draft Fitz in the top 15 if they don't need him as a Free Safety.

Good answer about Fitzpatrick. What is you opinion on the question in general?

If anything, playing on a team with more talent overrates the prospect. How can you tell that DB isn't excelling because the D-line has the QB running for his life every play? Or an offensive lineman isn't benefiting from the star player next to him? I would skew rating more to the level of competition and actually deduct a little if the rest of that player's unit is strong.

Look at Clemson's DL. All 4 are projected 1st rounders next year, and high first rounders at that. If even two of them are that good, who gets double-teamed? Someone is likely being overrated in that group because they are routinely getting one-on-one opportunities against the weaker OL and putting up inflated stats as a result.

Which supposedly will have the Giants taking Darnold at 2. Were the Jets aiming for Rosen?

I have a tough time believing Allen at #1 though. It would be Browns-like....

I think they still go Darnold. I am pretty set that Rosen will be a Jet, the Giants could go a bunch of different ways or trade their pick.

Allen at 1 almost seems like a smokescreen. They're trying to convince other teams that Allen is a good QB so their #4 pick will be more valuable.

The Jets from what I understand love Allen. They think he is a great fit for the New York weather.

If true, it's like the Jets (and Browns) WANT to suck.

Allen is going to bust hard. He's Kaepernick 2.0. He might be good early on, but once the NFL figures out how to neutralize his athleticism, his lack of QB sills will be exposed.

I don't know about the Kaepernick comparison but Allen has a lot of plays that just 'get away' from him. I think he is as raw as Blaine Gabbert and Joe Flacco coming out. Flacco career accuracy right now is 61% in the NFL and Blaine Gabberts is 56%. I think Allen can make enough plays with his arm to be maybe closer to Flacco but thats not something Id be optimistic about in a franchise QB. I don't think Allen's deep ball is any good right now despite how far he can throw it in shorts.

Allen being a good NFL QB would be basically unprecedented. I'm not saying it won't happen but he needs to go to a stable team that can actually develop a QB like New Orleans or maybe Pittsburgh. I'd give him about a 20% chance of making it in Cleveland or with the Jets.
