In order to press... according to Huggins when he first arrived at WVU and started talking about using one... you have to have depth.

That is why I said this year would have been better served without it... they didn’t have the depth.

Our press did not wear down our opponent like it did during the first few years. As a result, our opponents were able to shoot and score better in the 2nd half of games... repeatedly beat us down after we jumped out to big leads.

Our legs tired... our opponent’s legs did not.

Oh well... our HOF coach got us to another Sweet 16. To admit I’m spoiled by such runs is an understatement...

With this team, I think we had no other choice than to press. We did not have the depth to wear down many opponents, but we do not have the athletes to compete straight up.

This is something I accept at WVU. Location and demographics make it extremely difficult to get comparable athletes to other schools. WVU coaches need to find a way to outscheme other teams to compensate for the lack of athleticism. RR was a perfect example of this. He could not recriut enough size to compete, so he went small and fast. Used the unorthodox 3-3-5 and created a spread running offense with zone blocking. WVU had its greatest success under his system.

Huggs has done the same thing with the press. He recruits players suited to his system. WVU has never had a string of success as we have under Huggs. He has done this with less nba players in 10 years than Kentucky has has every year.

One issue with creative schemes is that sooner or later other teams figure it out. USF created the blueprint to stop RRs scheme and other teams used that blue print to stop us. Same with the press, we can expect to see diminishing returns as conference teams see it 2times every year other teams are copying Huggs blueprint. Even with that, I still see an advantage in forcing teams to play and handle the ball through the full court.

The Press also gets much attention from the press. Sports channels love to talk about us and the challengers other teams have against us. You can see the respect as pre season rankings always have us mentioned.

I doubt this team would have had the successes it did this year without the press.

I honestly don’t know how or why anyone would say we did not have the athletes to compete straight up.

Most teams play with a short bench. They go 7 or 8 deep.

Our top 7...

JC
Dax
Beetle
Esa
Harris
Sags
West

Who among this top 7 is considered to be unable to keep up with any/all of our opponents?

Do you really think we can beat these guys playing straight up bbDad? We are playing NBA Caliber teams with a bunch of 3 star guys.

I think I already answered that already.

Tell me, what did any of them do against straight up man defense this year?

I just don't think its rampant...you got a handful of teams there...yes there are your blue blood programs named but that is it to this point...all alledeged

So you believe it is not happening or just limited to a couple of schools?

I'd like to sell you a beachfront lot in Arizona

I would say if it is happening on a large scale its going to be in football and not basketball.....

From the stories I have read, it is rampant in both. The NCAA does little to get in the way.

Nothing has been proven with the exception of Louisville...I don't see Coach K or Izzo on the street looking for work...and they are named in this thing...Basketball as a whole doesn't drive the revenue of football so I find it hard to believe that this goes on everywhere...

I am sure there are all kinds of promises made to big time recruits...but kids talk and like to flash if they were getting money I think you would see another Reggie Bush story where their Moms have a new house!

Will it be the FBI -- as opposed to Texas or Oklahoma -- that ends Kansas’ streak of 14 straight Big 12 titles?

College basketball investigation: Kansas, NC State ensnared in new charges filed by prosecutors

There you have it Slaton today’s headlines. Ever wonder why we keep finishing second to these guys?

I thought we finished second because we consistently blow double digit leads.

If it is rampant and involves WVU, we’re obviously not very good at it. The NCAA can’t even come to Morgantown and take back any of our NC banners...
