I always feel like Kvothe is Uncle Rico in fantasy form. He is always talking about how he threw the football over them there mountains, but every part of the story that is not his recollection he does not do so well.
I like that about the story. How much is embellished? It's part of what makes the book so interesting.

I agree, but at some point you have think Chronicler would be like "Dude I was in Imre around that time, if some guy played the best song ever at The Eolian with a broken string we would of heard about that."

Just once in the next book I want Chronicler to call bullshit.

ohh that would be good

I wonder if he is going to write some kind of spin off about Chronicler like he did with Auri. The Auri book was very good though.

I started Oathbringer, and probably got 4 or 5 hours in (out of 55 hours or so total), but I put it on hold. After a combined ~90 hours in The Stormlight Archive universe, I wanted to give it time to air itself out. I’ll probably return in March or so.

In the meantime, I’ve been reading (listening to) The Maltese Falcon. Pretty interesting thus far, I will give my rating once finished. I have 2 hours left (finished 6 out of 8 hours thus far)

Yep. I blew more than a few nights just sitting down with it. Miss it now that it's done and now we'll have a 2 year wait to pick it up again. At least Sanderson writes though. It's not like some piece of shit fat hobbits who take 10 years in between books.

What's going on with Rothfuss? He doesn't update and gets mad when people ask haha. Hope he doesn't turn out to be another Martin. His shit is beyond good.

You ever go back to Malazan? Ericson just moved up my shit list along with those 2. He wrote the first 2 books of a prequal trilogy, and then citing low sales volume he scrapped book 3 and is moving on to a different trilogy. Granted the new one is a Karsa trilogy, so that should be good, but I'm pissed he's put the 3rd Tiste book on hold. His co conspirator Ian C. Esslemont has actually gotten to be a much better writer, and he's doing a prequel series on Dancer and Kellanved. It's still not bad good as my other favorite writers, but hes kind of like Micheal Bay. You know going in its not ghojng to be deep or inspirational, but you're still gonna have fun watching the world burn.

It's kind of the whole word of mouth reputation thing. You take a swing at a bully in high school and all of a sudden you were raised on the streets and beat up four armed gangbangers at the same time lol.

for some reason I never thought of it that way. I always took Kvothe's story as truth, never questioning whether he is a legend because of the seeds he planted. He is Edema Ruh, so it could very well all be just that, a story.

Haha. Nah, I've never gone back to it. I can't get past that one book. Every time I pick it up it bogs me down. I need to just power through it though because soon I'm going to forget too much to pick it up again like I did with that Wheel of Time thing.

The Auri book was very good though.
I was going to check that out but until Rothfuss shows the initiative to be an active author I'm gonna pass. I'm not getting stuck behind another martin train rusting on the tracks.

I took it as truth too. But less glamorous than the legends.

eh it's a very quick read, so not too much of a bother to get through.

I am waiting patiently for Scott Lynch and Jim Butcher to come out with new stuff. I don't have any concerns about them though. They put out material.

Yeah, I'm big on Lynch and his Gentlemen Bastards. He's about due. Never read any Jim Butcher. Might be something I need to look into. Generally speaking I read less and less fantasy. I like the epic storytelling though. But I also like it in historical fiction etc. Like the Clifton Chronicals. Big Ken Follett fan too.

I think the only fantasy stuff I'm currently reading are Sanderson's stuff (all of it), Scott Lynch, and the Malazan stuff (sorta). Might have to try Butcher though.

The Dresden Files books are good, low fantasy, almost trashy fantasy for me. Kind of a guilty pleasure. Really fun to read and great characters.

I want to read his Codex Alera books. I have them on my wish list, but haven't gotten to them yet.

I picked up Chuck Wendig's Blackbirds to read over the weekend while on the road. I didn't want to lug Oathbringer with me. It's alright, but I am not sure I am going to get into the series.

Other one that got recommended to me was Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it. I need to listen to the next one in the series.

I think Lynch is in the middle of writing the next Gentlemen Bastards. He posted on twitter that he needed help writing for a new character, who is gay, and needed some help with the perspective since he isn't gay and wants to get it right. Pretty interesting.

Huh. That does sound interesting. Lynch is really good. Really underrated.

He has already said the book won't be out this year, but thinks 2019 is a possibility.....

I feel like GRRM has got to be close with the next ASOIAF book. I think it needs to come out before the final season of the show.

I need to see an every 18-24 months schedule for me to be interested. I understand it's an art and can't always be scheduled but there needs to be an effort to not fuck with the people who pay your bills. He needs to show me that and maybe I'll come back some day.
