I really enjoyed watching him carry the ball last night, though that last carry had me worried when he was a lil gimpy getting off the field.

Malik Collins was starting for Dallas against Atlanta today.

Yea. He has been all season except one game because of injury. He started 14/16 games last year too

Don't count Nate Gerry out for Eagles starting LB role

Gerry was a fifth-round pick out of Nebraska, where he was a pretty good safety. Only the Eagles saw him as a linebacker.

NFL linebacker is hardly complete, it is safe to call him a legitimate competitor for the starting spot on the weak side that was opened up by the recent release of Mychal Kendricks.

Gerry is battling veteran newcomer Corey Nelson for what amounts to a role in which they’ll be on the field with the defense for around 30 percent of the snaps. The Eagles play a nickel or dime package, in which at least one linebacker comes off the field for around 70 percent of the snaps in a typical game.

Nevertheless, it remains a battle worth watching, especially because Gerry and most of the others are being asked to learn all the spots because the team simply lacks many linebackers. When Paul Worrilow (ACL) was placed on the injured reserve list on June 13, it meant just nine of the 90 offseason roster spots were taken by linebackers.

Consider the stage set for training camp.

“All the young guys, the Kamus [Grugier-Hill], the Nate Gerrys, the Joe Walkers, they’re all in the mix,” linebackers coach Ken Flajole said. “And I think any time that you lose a starter, I think they see it as an opportunity for them to maybe get a chance to get on the field.

“Training camp will really be the litmus test for us — when we put the pads on through training camp and through the preseason, when we actually play tackle football. We’ll get a better idea of who’s going to emerge as a starter at the Will position for us in the base defense, and we’ll go from there.”

Jason Kelce and other offensive linemen with similar skills who are 70 pounds or so heavier and can often hit moving targets in open spaces in the run or screen game.

Middle linebacker Jordan Hicks and Sam linebacker Nigel Bradham have mastered that, which is why they will rarely come off the field if healthy.

Gerry thinks he’s well on his way to a productive summer in every which way.

So do his coaches and teammates.

Ex-Huskers in the NFL: Brandon Reilly has big catch; Tanner Lee struggles in debut | Football | journalstar.com

Anyone shocked?

Jacksonville quarterback Tanner Lee had a forgettable game in the Jaguars' 24-20 loss to the Saints. Lee dropped back 13 times and was sacked five times. He also fumbled twice -- losing one -- and finished 4-of-8 for 37 yards

Jacksonville's O Line must not be very good.
yea that was my big question was whether it was the o-line or TL. He was the 3rd QB to play, so i'm sure the Jaguars were giving some FAs/young guys looks on the o-line. it's a heck of a lot easier for a defense to get after a guy even if crappier defenders when your o-line doesn't have much cohesion.

i'm not making excuses, it just seemed mean the way some guys were jumping all over his badness off of the line he put up.

I follow the Eagles and it seems Gerry has a real chance at starting on the outside. From what I have read it is between him and Kamu Grugier-Hill. Ironically both are college safeties turned linebackers. Cory Nelson signed a good contract this summer but doesn't appear he is even going to make the roster. Sounds as though Gerry is a lock to make the roster as coaches have raved how smart he is and can play all three linebacker spots. He started their first preseason game too though I wouldn't read into that too much just yet.

i couldn't imagine Gerry not sticking with a team. if nothing else it seems to me he'd be on every special teams unit and can be either a nickel or a backup LB at a minimum.

Well he was cut last year and made it through waivers without any team claiming him. The Eagles then signed him to the practice squad before being added to the active roster later in the year after injuries. Not sure he will ever be nickle, at least not on the Eagles. Hicks and Bradham are just too good of cover guys. He has always been a little tight in the hips, though great straight line speed, IMO. Maybe he changes that narrative this year.
